I don't know about boaters. With fedoras, I personally like them to sit just above my ears. Some people like them to sit higher, but I don't care for that look on me. Like many things, a lot of it is just personal preference.

Thanks for the info and the positive comments on the hat! I checked behind the sweatband and didn't see anything inticating the model. There was a damaged sticker that read "(illegible. . .) 1/8." Maybe it originally said the model and size.
