Hello Everyone, I had a question that I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask but wanted to ask other's on how they pay for hats that are outside the US? I have done a couple transactions with some excellent FL members and always sent money by paypal (as friend) to save the fees on the seller's end but they were domestic. Internationally I am not sure what other's use and how do they deal with the exchange rates and fees. Thanks in advance.

I just checked on my one overseas purchase and the seller requested that I use paypal "family and friends." No problems encountered.

I have purchased numerous hats from Europe both private and on Ebay. Used PayPal in all cases and it works very well. I am a fan.

Thanks for the replies! I just checked out paypal friend and family fees (below); seem to be less hassle and costs than using western union or wiring funds from your bank account.

Commemorative watch fob? I would guess it dates to when men carried pocket watches on a regular basis. I dunno, it is cool though.

i just picked up this lightweight felt Optimo Manhattan. It's almost a size too small for me, so I'm thinking about getting it reblocked. Before I go through the trouble, would love your thoughts as to whether the shape and color works for me.

I purchased three XXXX quality cowboy hats from Stetson from a local "western" store in a nearby town. Those were the standard boxes that ALL the hats came in.

While certainly not definitive, I purchased a Stetson "Romano" in 2015 from the Garland outlet. To my knowledge, the "Romano" is at least a post-2000 hat. It came in this box with the label attached:

I guess the box could have been repurposed for this hat, or I'm incorrect and the "Romano" is an older model than I thought, but I find it curious HatCo would have boxes from the 60s, as that's prior to them owning the brand. However, I also don't doubt Any buying a hat in this box in the 60s. Just adding to the mystery of Stetson history, I guess!

Unfortunately, the person who would know the most is in absentia these days. Did you look in the union label threat to see if it matched any era from that? Still a crapshoot, I guess.

I picked up an Open Road at an estate sale with the same box. They had several Stetsons with the same box with notes on them that the hats were "Promos" from 2005 and 2007. The hat is certainly post-1998. Not sure if that means anything.

I think it's a great looking hat on you, but wonder how much brim you might lose on a re-block to your size. If you're not opposed to a somewhat stingy brim, then I'd go for it.

Shape and color look fine,imo.I too question that it can be satisfactorily reblocked to suit you without becoming a "stingy"brim.

thanks - yeah, i do believe it will be stingier than i prefer. will likely sell this guy. kills me, as the felt and construction are pure Optimo brilliance.

I suppose it depends on what size it is now and what size it needs to be blocked up to...

Two aspects; first it is hard to tell as being a size too small the hat sits on top of your head and right now the proportions don't seem to fit you. AND I am used to seeing you in great hats with wider brims, and those suit you really well.

"The United Hatters Cap and Millinery Workers International Union (UHCMW) was formed in 1934 by the amalgamation of United Hatters of North America (UHNA) and the Cloth Hat, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union (CHCMW). The United Hatters of North America (UHNA) was established in New York in 1896 as the resultof the merger of two Kinights of Labor-affiliated unions in the men's hat industry, the the Hat Makers and the Hat Finishers. The Cloth Hat, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union (CHCMW) was established in New York in 1901, as the United Cloth Hat and Cap Makers of North America (superceding the the Cloth Hat and Cap Operators Union), and took its final name (adding Millinery Workers) in 1918. In 1983 the UHCMW joined the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union, which in turn merged in 1995 with the Internional Ladies Garment Workers Union to form UNITE (Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees)."

So post 1934, pre 1983 if I read this right? Not a big help, but it's a start. Does the seller have pics of the reverse? Perhaps a manufacurers mark could narrow it down.
