Aero Vincenzia Horsehide - Patina

Came across an older listing for a used VHH jacket from Aero that shows a decent amount of wear and tear. For those wondering how these hides patina over time, thought this might be helpful. I am not aware of when this jacket was purchased/if this was from an early batch of leather Aero is no longer using. For reference only.

Btw is Vicenza which is just the name of a city in northern Italy

I was saying "Vincenza" for a year until realizing that's not how they call it... But yeah, Vincenza just seems so natural. The jacket is cool. I wish I could get that damn Schott to look like that. But then again, that jacket is Aero Steer weight...

wow lots of creases throughout the body of the jacket, seems like it has been worn zipped up while hunching, and the arms reaching forward but not a whole lot of surface wear and fade from the elements... I guess the wearer's activity was typing on keyboard all day long in an office

I prefer chromexcel myself, a jacket should have to earn those creases. Vicenza creases too easily in my opinion. I live in a very rainy climate so CXL jackets develop patina after one or two damp winters, maybe if I lived somewhere warmer I’d choose Vicenza to get an accelerated patina. That jacket would look so much cooler in chromexcel.

For me vicenza is always associated with my childhood; I remember my dad listening always on sunday evenings to the radio for the football (sorry my fellow americans, it is called football, not soccer) results to see if he had won anything on the bet - he never did... I have to agree with @dubpynchon , my vicenza happy days creases easily.

I was just there last month to see the Van Gogh exhibit in town. Walked around a while, had the best pizza of my life at a little restaurant called Vesuvio. Cool little town, as was Verona.

I thought it meant a thin layer of something onto something else and most often than not it is something you want to remove, like dirt.

What happens with leather jacket I think it’s the exact opposing of patina... the top coat wears off and you get contrasting creases etc.

That is just "wrinkles" or "wear".
Patina is actually when the leather starts to burnish and get really cool looking. It is a mix of wrinkles, oxidation, and color variation. Think of it like your leather "tarnishing" with time.
The black coming off is what we tend to generally call patina, or even "tea-core" but if you are a purist, it's a mis-nomer.

Yeah I get that. The point I’m not sure if that what the word patina truly means or at least not the common meaning. Googled a bit and in fact it means “coating” which is what the word means in Italian (where it comes from).

But again it’s clear to everybody around here what we mean when we use it so it’s fine.
