Two things:

1. I bought a bunch of detachable collars from ebay and a lot of them are made of plastic. I can't imagine why. Who would wear a plastic collar?[huh] Ideas?

Fortunately there are some linen collars too....and the package wasn't that expensive.

2. Some minutes ago I bought a Signum shirt on german Ebay that has an amazing pointed and curved (!) collar. I never hoped to find a collar like this on a modern shirt. The seller seems to have more of them. I will tell you about the quality when the shirt arrives. It has 50% cotton and 50% viscose (rayon?). I would prefer 100% cotton but well...depends on the weave maybe.

PS: I was in a bad mood today and it needed only a nice find on ebay to cheer me up. sick sick sick:eusa_doh:

well, celluloid collars were much much cheaper than linen, were washable, and lasted longer than paper collars.

Couldn't you wash linen? And why would celluloid be cheaper than linen, wasn't it newer and more expensive then?

Yes, you can wash textile collars, but it's difficult and time consuming to do at home. Specialist launderers had irons specifically for collars to get a perfect finish, curl, and smoothness to the collar.

Yep, folks would launder the shirt bodies at home but send the collars out to be done professionally.

As promised...the Signum-shirt.

I think the collar is very 30s curved but the buttons are butt-ugly. Also the is a horizontal hanger on the back of the shirt. whatever.

Here are the pics:

My favourite shirt ever was custom made for me as a present. So it has a personal value.

I would like to have a collar bar for this that doesn't damage the fabric.

The tunic part is tucked in anyway, isn't it? But youre right. It would be more vintage.
I always had the problem that vintage tunic shirts were too short at the sleeves.

I'm sure she would make a tunic shirt, too. It's all custom made by one person and she already knows what we vintage guys are talking about.

Oh I made translation mistake. I supposed tunic shirt were normal shirts but only with buttons down to the beltline and closed below.

But you meant detachable collar shirts, righty?

I have a recommendation then:
T.M. Lewin

A good friend of mine told me they make excellent shirts of very high quality.

This is semi :eek:fftopic:

I figure you're referring to Vecona Vintage (I took that from the photos of your shirt)? They offer some really nice 'home-grown' stuff on their website, even though I didn't find any shirts.

Their pants are awesome, though (if a bit costly):

Ok, back to the subject of this thread: I absolutely love that custom shirt you posted. What's the price on that one?

Okay. I was writing about several brands and some are connected.Sorry for the confusion.

First I was reffering to Signum. It's a bigger brand. They seem to have different collar styles and I couldn't find out if the shirt I bought at Ebay is still in their collection. The pictures on their website look pretty different to my shirt. Rather boring and modern.

Vecona is a one-person project. You order a garment and the seamstress will sew it for you. So of course the prices are higher. But you get a unique piece that will fit you. The shirt can be found if you search in the "collection"
She started at the gothic scene but is getting more and more into vintage. That leads to...

Vecona Vintage It's the follow-up project of the same seamstress and an associate partner. Also all garments are sewn in Germany but in ready-to-wear sizes. They also have a bunch of real-vintage 40s nos shoes now.

I hope I could help you.

Best regards,
Flo

I've visited their website a lot but have never taken the plunge and actually ordered something. What's the overall quality of their stuff? I really like the look of their brown/beige spectators; a few of their pants and some of their shirts look pretty nice as well. Do you have any firsthand experience? I think I'd probably start with those beige suspensers...

First hand experiences not by owning but I´ve had some of their clothing in my hands... e.g a shirt and a jacket. Imho it´s well made and the fabrics are a good quality.
As I know they do made to measure on their own design, too.

If you´re interested in the spectators you may take a look at this:

Juke Jive is reselling some of it at a bit higher prices.
