That's a tough one Fletch, but I think I got it (I'm still not sure about the candy bar connection, though! Who was that?).

The song is:

"Put It Down In Writing"

Honestly I'm not too knowledgeable about Swing Era tunes, in fact the only version of this I've heard is the Artie Shaw Orch. / Tony Pastor recording.

Non's got it on the tune. The singer (on the only other version I know of) was Bon Bon, with Jan Savitt's Top Hatters.

Huntington Beach eh? My late grandmother taught high school there from 1927-'31. We've got pictures from back when the derricks grew like grass right up to the surf.

"A Picture Of Me Without You" (Cole Porter)

Lizziemaine, I think you and I both have an affinity for those cheeky Depression Era tunes! When I read your post, the first thing that came to mind was the Ramona / Ken Darby recording with Paul Whiteman's Orch.

This is two in a row that I've answered, so I'll step aside and let other people get them from now on!

George "Bon Bon" Tunnell -- there's another one for the forgotten singers thread. Have you heard his early stuff with Mills Brother-ish group "The Three Keys"? They made a great "Nagasaki".

She must have taught at Huntington Beach High School! A wonderful historic building, built in 1926. I always wanted to go to that school, but unfortunately I lived on the other side of town.

They sure did, altho their resemblance to the Mills Bros. was made too much of at the time. The Keys were a somewhat tighter, swingier group, but that, as well as the bad timing, limited their appeal.

Now here's one that if you get, you're good:

I'm spending a day in my blue room

Could you possibly mean:

Morning, Noon & Night
I'm Spending The Day in My Blue Room ?

If so it was sung by Frank Prince with Ben Bernie's Orchestra

Here's one

'twasn't part of my scheme to sigh and tell you that I love you

So, what is this one? I *think* I'm suffering from "tip-of-the-tongue" syndrome... (either that or a confabulation lol )

Don't know it either.

Hints on my last one:

Everything I hear and every single thing I see
Should be proof enough that you are really thru with me

It's a lesser known tune by a very prolific but no longer well-known composer.
He had quite a few hits, but this wasn't one of them.
The year: 1932.

Here's the full verse (sans the title):

"Go and get a girl, then make a date with her,
Don't be late with her,
You'll be great with her,
When you introduce her, down at the .... "

(year: 1929)

...Sophomore Prom." Ted Weems made a great recording of that one.

Since no one seems to have gotten my tune, I'll flip another card. Here's the bridge lyric in its entirety:

Searching for the sunshine, I found it in vain
For I only found it to lose it again
Every new tomorrow brings sorrow and pain
For you left me standing right out in the rain...

How about "I Can't Believe It's True," by Isham Jones, Charles Newman, and Ben Bernie (although I suspect that the Ol' Maestro was taking a cut-in and didn't actually do any composing!)

OK, here's my contribution for the day:

"The dog meows, the little cat bow-wows, without you pet, they're all upset, the same as me..."
