I'm in love with it Bob ... thank you so muchTruly glad "The New Slant" ended up living at your house if it couldn't stay at mine. Congrats on the Playboy as well!
Two fantastic hats. I love to see a Playboy example to compare with my 1935 clone. Lines are more "50s" and the crown is not as tall as the Slats. And to see yet another New Slant variation. The hat band it like mine but it is unlined, the lines are similar on both hats. Yours does appear to be earlier, don't know how much, it just feels older. You never cease to amaze Ant!two new purchases that I have fallen fast in love with
for a couple years now I have been searching for a grey Playboy with a contrasting black ribbon... my favorite colorway on a hat...
I finally found it ... 1950s era Stetson Playboy
and this amazingly lightweight late 40s or early 50s Portis "The New Slant" that I received from my friend @BobHufford
such a gorgeous hat !!!

that ribbon is s.w.e.e.t!!! great score! This Royal Stetson came in today. I'll get better pics tomorrow when it cools down a little. Sellers often claim a hat is perfect, excellent, mint, never worn, etc. I believe the seller on this one, which was listed as being wool felt. The Royal Stetson designation precludes that possibility and the felt is indeed very nice, thin, and molds like buttery velvet.
Ribbon is unique to my experience, as is the raw brim on a RS. VERY DARK brown felt, like espresso or 80% cacao dark chocolate.
Very happy with this one. It came with a simple center crease and no dents. After trying a teardrop, c-crease and diamond, I put it back as a center crease but added some front/side dents. Excellent.
