type of ribbon to use?

I recently did a conversion on a panama hat that my wife picked up for me at an antique show. (It was looking more like an old beat up farmers/cowboy hat). It was so much fun I wanted to try a felt hat.

This week, I am expecting a Bailey 3X cowboy hat, that I won on ebay, that I will be converting. This hat will require the ribbon to be replaced. I have found many useful threads on putting a ribbon on. And I have plenty of fabric stores in my area. But, what type of ribbon material should I be looking for? What works best?
