Urine suit

Spotted a very nice early 1950s gabardine suit yesterday, but the trousers have an aggressive urine stain. A couple questions.

First, is gabardine washable, machine or by hand?

Secondly, if it isn't washable would the dry cleaners be able to get it out?

It's a nice suit that fits (well, the jacket does, don't know about the trousers) and I don't want a restorable suit to go to waste, literally.

It's a very common problem. Especially with tweeds - way out on the moors, nowhere else to go. Your man will take care of it …

I believe it is washable. Mis Sis is apparently a marvel at washing menswear. Maybe she'll know.

I have to say that the hygiene habits of the former owner would suggest to me that it is fit only for burning. Could not abide to wear it even after cleaning.

It is likely the owner go told and developed a problem. I see it. I have had mixed luck. Some have been removable and some not. But there may well be other methods. On the plus side, pants are washable although I would suggest only spot wash with water so you don't have to press the whole thing.

Might try pet enzymes stuff. Might be able to lighten it enough to where it is not noticable.

If the suit is cheap enough, worth it. If you find it in a vintage shop, then I would guess it is too much to take the risk, unles they offered you a refun d if you can't clean it.

That is a fact and I was just thinking the same thing. I would guess that's more than likely what happened. He died with his suit on, poor old guy. Good luck in removing it if you can.

The gent didn't necessarily have to be old. One of my lawyer's associates was found slumped over at his desk last month; He was 32 years old. I bet that left a stain.

Old geezers have can have a real problem with incontinence. They really can't help it, but it is pretty gross.
I would think that cold water and mild detergent. plus some treatment like "Nature's Miracle" might do the job.

Seriously though I got a gabardine shirt once and it was supposed to be mint Underarm stains. My cleaner does amazing work. Not on this one.
May get lucky but Uric acid and whaterver minerals stained the fabric have set pretty good.
