I’m looking at a hat that is outside of my normal area. I have a couple of questions:
1. Do these Resistol Stagecoach hats fit true to size (normally)?
2. Is the brim binding and ribbon on this hat too 1970s urban cowboy? I like unique, but I don’t go for garish or gaudy. Is this a bridge too far?

Thanks in advance, Brent

1. Yes and No. As all hats, some shrink more than others. I have some 7 1/4 that are tight, some 7 1/4 and 7 3/8 that fits perfect and some 7 3/8 that is a bit loose.
2. I don't know but I own 3 of those. Model name is Hi Yo Silver. 2 are Resistol, 1 Dobbs West. i think those look cool but I'm no fashion expert nor do I have a sense of style also.

I like your thoughts on the beadwork.
The original is 15 rows of beads wide plus some braided cord on the borders. Without the braided cord the beader can add 4 more rows. Nineteen rows of 15/0 beads gives me the width I want & the pattern can take it.

Below are a couple of computer matrix simulations using antique White in the background. Still going to play around with the pattern as I'm not quite happy with it yet.

I'd lose the binding and ribbon. Very 1970's.

I Love any kind of beadwork either a hat band or bound edge.

Welcome to the forum MH (we use a lot of abbreviations here & have several Michael's). Being interested mostly in the Old West style hats & Native American beadwork, I haven't looked much at brim beading, overlays, etc. I know it's popular with women competitors on the NRHA circuit, etc.

Look forward to reading your posts.

I had to think about this one. Here is my opinion. That is a beautiful hat, and has very nice felt to work with. The ribbon and binding are a bit flashy and very late seventies. However, it is representative of it's time, and would be cool on certain occasions. If I had it, I would leave it original, at least it isn't macrame!

I have similar hats that I have replaced that kind of ribbon with Grosgrain Ribbon. I like the old west look so i use 1.25-1.5" on a tall crown like this one. The hat attached isn't a Stagecoach but it gives you an idea of what I mentioned.

Whenever I see a Stagecoach trimmed out like that, I can't help but think of this:

I like it. Those beaded bands look like a lot of work. Pretty cool though.
