Little black Aristocrat from Stetson sold at Kleinhans in Buffalo. Note the wind trolley button sewn through the bow, an alternate construction seen in the late 1930s - early 1940s.

Super nice Stetson, Alan, with an interesting touch on the wind trolley. I've never seen something that until now.

View media item 1272View media item 1271Got my new Penman Green Fedora from Penman Hats in Hillsboro, OR. I was in the que for this hat for 6 months.... but it is a real Keeper. John Penman is a great guy and will talk "hat's" with you as long as you want. We got the full tour. I am lucky to have two Hat makers within driving distance (Art Fawcett being the other.... although thats more like an overnighter drive)
Howdy from McMinnville! Love your hat! is that a moss "The Penman?" I can't see if you have the 6-point diamond on top...

We've also got Michael Gannon in Portland, Mike Miller of NW Hats in Eugene and more up in Washington. We are blessed with great hatters in Oregon.

While I sported the M&K Custom, my grandson rocked his Nottingham. I had been saving this lid since he was a kid, (infant, actually) but I waited too long, and he's outgrown it!! He still looks terrific and even in the mean streets of NYC, he got smiles and reactions from the normally jaded populous of the UWS.

Check out the size tag!
Edit: He's just turned two years of age. I bought another hat, too when I bought the Nottingham... a 6-5/8 Tyrolean style. I'd best hurry.
Man, that's some great stuff and super pics of the little guy! Just wonderful, Charlie!

New guy here, long time lurker. Wearing my modified modern Stetson wool "Whippet," my knockaround hat. Wanted to demo it for an inquiry here in the Lounge. Prefer vintage, and its got very little in common with an original Whippet, besides its name, but once its been trimmed and re-bashed, this cheapie is a pretty nice hat, and one I can wear without a care. -Dave

Austrian Patent (133275) stamped on the sweatband of the above P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin Melone with the felt insert that P. & C. Habig Wien called "Auto Cape". The patent claim is to make a stiff felt hat that is resistant to denting and the felt insert being a part of the invention.

Super cute!
If the little guy is anything like Grampa, he'll be in a 7 1/2 by his 3rd birthday...:)

Darn. I was hoping it would pop out a Batman cape or something wicked cool like that. Still a beautiful hat, just not quite as awesome as the sweatband stamps would imply!:D

Original price was $3.95. I thought maybe I could date it a bit by looking up the store that sold it. Turns out it opened in 1903 and is still in business under the same name in the same small Iowa town.
