It's been months since I have anything interesting to post here, but I finally have something somewhat interesting.

A couple of months ago, I had it in my mind I needed a Fez. Not just any run of the mill costume Fezzes, I wanted a real one. Turns out, a real authentic Fez is pretty rare here in the states.

I found this one on eBay, advertised as a 19th Century Fez made in Cairo, Egypt.

It arrived today covered in dust but in remarkable shape! I brushed it up and blew it off with compressed air and it turned out great!

I thinking this was made for the tourist trade maybe back in the early 1900's based on the English on the label. I would love your input, maybe one of you history buffs and pin this one down.

Hey, I remember seeing that on ebay. I thought it was pretty cool and almost bid on it myself. I ended up passing because I just didn't know what I'd do with it.

I negotiated with him quite a bit, I think I paid a good price considering the shape it's in.

That fez has some serious competition for Cool, and it comes from just to the right, in the form of a fez-sporting wooden simian. Nice score GWD, and how does it fit?

That's Darwin the Hut Monkey, "The Hut" is what we call the Man Cave. I really don't know how it's supposed to fit, but based on Photos of other Fez wearing folk, I think it fits fine! About two and a half fingers above the ears.

I dunno. It looks a lot like the touristy fezes my brother and I bought in Egypt in 1962. If it was significantly old it would be in MUCH worse shape than it is. I suspect it's less than 20 years old cheapy fez for the tourist trade. Sorry. You could have got it for maybe $5 bucks at any tourist souvenir place in Cairo.
Edit: But it's still super cool! Please don't let me be a wet blanket. Enjoy it!

It doesn't surprise me at all, it's still cheaper than a trip to Cairo! Not that I wouldn't want to go.

I knew it was "touristy"! Thanks for the info!
