I couldn't resist this hat and once I found out it had a leather sweat and silk lining..I bought one! It's the ZOOT by Scala and at 25 bucks it's a steal.
I can hardly begin to tell you of all the compliments I get with this hat, it's non-stop!! Everyone, everywhere loves this hat! I know it's not "old" and it's not a fur felt, but I love the style this hats got.

Almost a John Lennon look in that photo. Lennon in a Zoot hat.

Amish-made black felt hat. The felt seems nice, but this baby is stiff enough to wear as a helmet. It's actually a style worn by one of the strict Mennonite sects in PA.

Nice TALL crown ! What's the dims on that puppy? Looks like it would crease up as a nice Black OR style :) Is it lined and from whom did you get it ?

Monbla,

The crown is about 5 3/4, brim about 2 5/8. It is unlined, but you could probably buy a liner or filch one from another hat if you wanted. The biggest problem is the amount of shellac on
it, maybe the Amish guys use it as a bike helmet when they ride? Absent that, it's a pretty nice hat.

Got it from Amishcraft.com for $87.70 plus the shipping. Took about 10 days to get here I think. It's called the Pike Mennonite hat.

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna look into one of those for sure. Unlined is OK as it being a Black hat, that will help it stay a bit cooler down here in Texas :) I have a Jiffy hat steamer and with a good heavy dose of steam from it, even a heavily shellaced hat can be worked easily :)

Im sure everyone on the lounge already knows that Im a sucker for tall crowns. I LOVE this one. Ive had a couple hats with a ton of Shellac in the felt. I kind of like it actually. After I steam the hat and set the crease to exactly how I like, I love the fact that the crease never moves. Its kind of a pet peeve of mine when I spend time on a crease and get the measurements exactly how I like, and then it rains or someone picks up my hat to try it on and the crease is different. I think for an "everyday" hat, having a lot of shellac can be a good thing. GREAT HAT hatophile!!!

Plus, you can ride your bike and still look stylish, right Josh?

Actually, it's too bad they only make these in black. I think it's pretty good for $90 or so.

LOL. I agree, you could ride your bike or maybe......your horse. Its the equestrian fedora. I would love one of those hats in a really nice steel gray, but for $90 they are pretty hard to beat.

You're 10 minutes from Ohio Amish and you bought a PA hat? The Millersburg Mafia is currently staging a ride-by of your place.

It looks like a very well built hat. I am sure you look great in it. Congratulations!

My first Borsalino arrived today - my daughter quickly claimed it!

It was totally crushed from shipping, poor packing job by the eBay seller. Luckily the felt is super pliable and it soon went back to it's proper open crown form.

Well, I picked up 2 new goodies the same day! A 1927 44 Special and a work hat! Walked into Rural King and saw this Harley Davidson on clearance and it is now serving as my new workday hat. And the best part it was only $5!
