Akubra Overload

Hi guys, a couple of crown height and style questions.

Anyone own a Tablelands? If so how is the crown height? I own a couple of Banjo Patersons so if anyone can compare the crowns on those two models that would be great. From images I have seen they look very similar. EA's site doesn't provide the crown height for the Tablelands.

Also I'm considering a Cattleman. I own a Stockman so if anyone can compare the crowns on those two models it would be great as well. Again their images look very similar for the crowns but the Cattleman's looks like it is styled a little higher in the front even though EA's site info would contradict my perceptions.

I own 3 CDs and I have their crowns at 4 1/4" in the front and I sort of like that height.

Thanks fellas.

Good List & THANKS.

Only one that has me confused with all the hoopla here on the lounge is that the Stylemaster didn't make the top ten. But then again I am pretty certain the list reflects the far more immense sales in country and as a "working" hat rather than the rest of us out here.
Glad to see my "walking veranda" The Territory is so popular.
Good find Duper :eusa_clap

These seem to be more of the "outback" or "western" style hats, but interesting list nonetheless. I guess that's what Akubra sells most of, not necessarily fedoras. I suppose the Traveller is, or is borderline fedora style.

I think the U.S. distributor only sells 2 models that one would call a classic fedora. It isn't what Akubra is known for. They are country hat or outback hat makers, primarily. I do have a "vintage" Akubra fedora from around the 70's called the Titan. You can tell it is an Akubra just by the look and feel of the felt. I think the main classic fedoras now are the Sydney and Stylemaster.

Exactly. No surprises here. Akubra is primarily driven by the outback, western and country hat sales. The only partial surprise to many should be the number of outright western hats they sell, because here in the US they are known so much for the country and outback hats. But in Australia western hats are also very popular and are every bit as good as the rest of their hat line. Personally I really like the Rough Rider hat. I wish Akubra had more distributors here in the US.

No different in many ways than Stetson, which is driven by their western hat sales and has a very small market in other hat types. The number of hats other than western or their semi-western Gun Club hats that Stetson sells is a very small market indeed.

I can't believe the Bushman wasn't even on the list. I think this hat is being over looked. Those of us that own them are apparently in the minority.

Currently theBushman is a US/David Morgan distributed model only. From what I've been able to find out, it no longer is available in Australia and that list was a Listing of their top 10 hats sold in AUSTRALIA. :) And as far as us Bushman owners, we are in a minority here on the Forum as well. It is not the officially approved CD model as is craved here :)

Pretty easy treatment. They used to beat me about the fingers and hands with a ruler.

Ahhhh! Catholic education ! I went to "Our Holy Mother of Guilt" school. taught by Belgian nuns who had a wooden clicker that had a knob on it and they would rap you on the head with it when you missbehaved ! They tried hard to save my soul I know :)

About time. Now they need to get the Moonstonc color.

Send them an e-mail and ask about it. They don't sell the Mid-Brown color in Seattle but import it for John Helmer in Portland and told me where I could get it. John Helmer also sells the Bluegrass Green one, imported by DM, but not sold by them. :)

I already have one (along with dark gray and acorn colors). I paid approximately $90 and $30 or so shipping, but I usually order two hats at a time. the Moonstone is my wife's favorite hat in my (small) collection. The Acorn and Carbon/Steel Gray are colors Akubra keeps in stock but all others seem to be specials. Acorn is a neat color that changes depending on the light source.

I'll second that about the Acorn Fawn. Both my SM's -- acorn and carbon -- are from Down Under. Price was better, and didn't mind the wait.

Looks like we all will be paying more for our hats from Australia with the current exchange rate. Hats Direct has the Stylemaster @ $109.77 + $35.00shpg. ($144.77 total) David Morgan has it @ $135.00 + $8.00 shpg ( $143.00 total) and it takes 4 days on average to get a hat from him. :) (but you don't have that fashionable wait either )
