Ah...you mean field corn...and we do eat field corn, just not in kernel form or without some other processing. Love me some hominy grits!!

In North Carolina we grow sweet corn for human consumption and field corn for livestock and other applications. The sweet corn season begins in June and ends in late July, or sooner. Field corn is harvested in late August and early September. When I see acres of mature field corn drying in the sun, think of the beginning of autumn and the opening day of dove season.

September is upon us. This year is a little strange though..with Labor Day and the Jewish holidays all falling in the same week for the first time since I don't know when, school doesn't start here until Sept 9th! So there's an extra week of Summer Vacation. I hope to see some temperature changes to coincide with our unofficial start of Fall.

One thing I do know: once all the rain starts, and all those folks come back from their summer time hollidays (open their mail and realise there's a TON of work in front of them, more to come).. the moment they mention how they regret ever leaving... I'll smile.
