Josh, wonderful hat and work and looks so goood!

A very 30's looking hat Josh. Looks like some facial hair sprouting as well.

BEAUTIFUL, Josh! Splendid results, Sir.

Thanks so much, Gentlemen!!! :yo:

Perry, it seems the older I get, when I try to grow facial hair I just see more and more gray. Whatever used to be blonde is now gray, so I try not to let it get too long. I guess I've just been lazy about shaving lately. LOL.

Its hard to believe that the hat started out as this two years ago:

A fine hat, Josh and a good story of a renovation in transition.

Like many, I am trying to get a few last licks in before running the risk of straw umbrage.

Josh, by gosh that is a sharp flange job. The pics conjure up images of hats I see on the "oldster" black and white movies. Cheers.

Allan, there that straw hat is again. Man that is sharp. Very sharp and classy. Casual, with a light blazer/coat, it would look great. We all need one!

Below is a pic shortly ago, before me packing and heading back to the gym for the afternoon and evening. Shoes up and siping coffee. Being short, a high arm chair is much like a loveseat. It allows me to really stretch out. Ahhh, relaxing. I am heading out with my VS Wanderer.

Excellent choice and display, Eric. Enjoying some Nicaraguan Selva Negra light roast here myself this morning.

Alan keep wearing that one. And the background in your photo post today proves that you are NOT out of your tree. We knew that, sir!;)

Absolutely beautiful conversion, Josh! :eusa_clap

How wide is the brim after surgery?

Thank you so much for the VERY kind words eveyone!!!!

The flange is super high in the back. I bought the flange from ebay about a year ago and I like it a lot. Its marked "Swing" on the side and seems to be the exact same flange profile as the Knox "Backswing" from the late 30's. I just recently saw a Stetson sell on ebay with the same high rear flange and flat front. It was labeled "The Scoop." Its an ideal flange for me to make 30's style hats because I love hats that have flat front snap brims but have higher rear flanges.

After the brim trim and edge sanding, the brim currently sits at 2 1/4 inches wide.

Alan, that Parabuntal is just awesome. The more I see it, the more I want one just like it. I actually think that a felt hat with an optimo crown and brim curl would look really good too!

Eric, that is a beautiful VS Wanderer! The vent hole design on the side is simply fantastic! :eusa_clap

Josh, can you post a pic of that flange that you use, please!

I just looked through my entire photobucket account, for some reason I can't find any pictures of the particular flange. I have a few. I wont be home tonight, but I will take pictures of it tomorrow and post them. :)

Here's the couple of Knox Backswing ads from the late 30's that really remind me of the hat.....

David - great semi-calado and nice spectators.

Andy - It's a great Stetson :)

Sam - nice straw, and great catch-ups - I love that trimmed squatter

Charlie - I've not investigated shatungs but that one looks great. Another nice pair of spectators - If we get a warm spell I'll get a shot of my Churchills.

Perry - great straw and shirt to finish the season, although I've also got my fingers crossed for one last warm spell.

Eric - I like that stingy - presumably akubra made?

Josh - lovely Regis

Alan - I'm still envious, and I'm not normally a fan of optimo crowns.

Eric - Lovely VS

Really nice posts today fellas, you all inspire. Richard, you are the rare natural in a bowler.

Well on the way into the 90's this afternoon, found some relief opening the box from my latest catch out of the Bay and some late summer shade in the backyard. Equadorian Supernatural milan with optimo crown, will need some TLC but I'm stoked about it.
