I have lost count of the Filson gear that I have acquired. One of my favorite is this Filson Levi's trucker jacket and Original hat both with heavy waxed Tin Cloth.

Looking sharp there, Fanch. The only trucker jacket I have anymore is a VERY faded Levi's (Chinese era) denim that's got patches on its back from most of the military units I've served with.

Off-topic, but is that a Triumph Thunderbird in your avatar?

Nope, it is a Steve McQueen Limited edition that belongs to one of my co-workers who lets me ride it occasionally.

Hey Fanch...

...is that a Lewis Leathers "Countryman" jacket you're wearing on the motorcycle? If so, how do you like it? For some reason it's gotten into my mind and I just can't seem to get it back out!

No it is a piece of **** mall jacket that my co-worker wore that day and let me borrow along with the cycle and helmet. The next day I gave him an old Cooper ANJ with bi-swing back that I had but rarely wore but told him that he still needed to buy a proper cycle jacket. The old mall jacket that I wore that day should go in the Salvation Army bin, or maybe even the dumpster; definitely not a Lewis.

I bought a Filson Mackinaw about five years ago while living in Northern Virginia for general outside work and traveling to the office by car on cold mornings. Yes, it was plenty warm enough for the two months of cold we got there, but its "warmth" was only a secondary benefit as I had several coat choices for warmth. What continues to impress me is its "breathability," the ability to feel just right over wide variances of temperature. If something's too warm it causes me to sweat, then get chilled as the sweat evaporates, but that never happened with my wool Filson.

We moved to south Texas several years ago, so I wear the Mackinaw maybe two or three days every year. I'd been considering selling it, but with the direction the company apparently is heading, I believe I'll hold on to it in case global warming changes direction.

I bought a Filson Double Mackinaw about six years ago. Our Oklahoma weather this past winter only allowed me to wear it a few times. But on those few occasions, total strangers would approach to comment on it's good looks.
My Double Mac is actually the second one; after purchasing the first one, I noticed that the cape (outer) sleeve on one side was about two inches shorter than the other one. The inner sleeves were both the correct length. I returned it for the the one I have now.
It surprised me that Filson would have allowed it to go out like that, until I realized that I had tried it on and that I, along with my wife, had not noticed this, either!

It`s amazing how Filson went from this esoteric company to what it is now, back 30 or so years ago there product line was not that extensive, now they have reached out to people who wear their products to the mall.

Good common-sense gear has mass appeal. It's always been that way. Most of the gear we wear daily is suitable for the Zombie Apocalypse lolIt looks good, feels good, and is comfortable. It also lasts.

I a little ashamed to admit I handed over the loot for the No. 16 Forestry Cloth Cruiser that's currently being offered - but I don't regret it! Lightweight, warm, breathable, fabric seems tough, and a closer cut than the Mack Cruiser. True three season jacket. I'll be wearing this thing for years to come.

For years now, I have used a Tin Cloth Cruiser, along with a pair of Tin Cloth chaps, while doing chainsaw battle with 35' tall cedar trees. It's like wearing armor.

Visited the Filson flagship store in Seattle last month; very cool stuff (I own a lot of Filson gear). Love their heavy duty tin cloth!

I visited the Filson flagship store in Seattle in August and was also suitably impressed with their heavy duty waxed tin cloth. I was particularly impressed with their oil finish tin jacket, which comes in extra long as well as standard length, and will likely be my next Filson acquisition.

Sounds like she went to a good home, at least.

The best of homes, yes. Daughtergirl learned to drive that truck on the training ranges at Ft. Lewis when she was 13 years old. We were out there, pooping along a tank trail (i.e. dirt road) at about 30 mph when I spied a plume of dust on the far side of the rise.

"Get over, sweetie. That's good... ease over to your right..."

Just then, a Stryker armored vehicle came booming over the ridge, hitting about freeway speed, with a big yellow sign on its nose.

The sign said "DRIVER IN TRAINING."

"Get off the road!!!" One of us was shrieking like girl, and I'm pretty sure it was me.

My daughter's lane discipline has retained regimental discipline ever since.

I have been looking for a Filson Mackinaw coat Regular or Seattle fit. Is there any way to get it cheaper at an outlet or wait for a sale. For now it is out of my price range. No luck on ebay thus far.

My experience is that the Filson Mackinaw Cruiser sells for a premium, even on ebay. In my case, it would be an Alaska fit 42 extra long since the Seattle fit is not made in extra long. Maybe better just to go ahead and buy on Filson's website, returnable in case of poor fit or buyer's remorse. ;)

I've been successful a couple of times in winning a Filson Mackinaw in like new condition on Ebay at a good price (approx. half off of new retail, or even less). Since these have been made for so many years, they constantly come up on Ebay, often in virtually new condition. Just don't get carried away bidding. If the price starts to soar, wait for the next one to come along. Eventually you'll get one at the right price. They're truly great coats. Good luck!
