Miller sells their "Boston Hat", which has a 2" brim, 4" crown. Made by Biltmore.

Hi everyone! I'm in the market for my first hat and I've read great things about Akubra as a first lid. I'm looking for a classic fedora that looks good on me and old ladies say, "look at that nice dressed young man" not, "Oh look, he has a hat on." I'm trying to decide between the Stylemaster/Bogart/FedIV/CEO/Fedora. They all appear to be very similar with slightly different brims and bashes so I want to know which style hat would look best on my face and why. I've read online that if you have a round/short/long/square face, then look for XYZ in a hat. Well I'm struggling with just identifying the shape of my ugly mug! So I though the best way to do this was to go to my local men's store and post a bunch of pics of my melon in hats. Can anyone tell me which ones look the best on me and why, in regards to brim, taper, bash etc. Any help is much appreciated! Also, where is everyone getting their Akubras? It looks like David Morgan and Hatsdirect are the two choices with HatsDirect being farther away from the US but having a greater selection.

I don't think the stingy brims work well for you. I wouldn't go any shorter than the brim on the hat in your first photo. I think that specific hat and brim width looks good on you. If you want an Akubra, I would suggest a Fed IV from HatsDirect.

How about a nice panama? I wear one when I'm heading somewhere warm and Florida fits that bill. I've posted a pic of me wearing one of mine in an earlier post. Otherwise maybe a moonstone fed IV.

Think symmetry = you need more crown above the brim to offset face below your eyes = vintage style like Fed4, Campdraft, etc.
Your size also says a 2 5/8" brim.
Hatband ribbon is personal preference....

Good advice.
I think brim width is less important than lack of taper - I'd get something very straight sided. A Fed IV would probably be a good pick.

Fish, we are built similar, but my face is less full than yours. I am 5 ft 11in 215 lbs so I am a big man that needs a bigger hat. Let me show you what I mean. Smaller hat (vintage disney I found at estate) brim was 2 inches

I agree with Richard (ManofKent), that the equation is a pretty long one, containing a lot of variables. I find, that some European hats with a little more taper to the crown works fine with a little stingier brim - on my egg, that is.
Also it's important to remember, that an image is a frozen pose. The way we move and hold the body is very important, too. Imagine Clint with a little cigar in the side of his mouth and a hat on the head. That image would completely shatter, if he opened his mouth and said a line in a high and bell-clear falsetto voice - or started tap-dancing around the muddy streets of Dodge City to the music of "Singing in The Rain". His "type" would change completely in a split second, and our perception of him - and his looks - would change with it.
That said, I think the first hat and the western with leather hatband look best on you - in the images. The one just above the western might also work(?) It would be a lot easier to say, if I stood beside you

Symmetry with your frame suggests a wide brim to finish off the look, particularly in a suit. Also a high crown.
I agree with the foregoing generally, and TheDane in particular.
If you don't like the western look, I would suggest as wide a brimmed fedora as you are comfortable with. A 2 3/4" wide brim is probably a good choice in that regard.

I am big like the OP, although my face may not be quite as full. I agree with everyone that the low crowns and small brims are not flattering. (Think Oliver Hardy with a tiny bowler perched on the top of his head.)
Go with a tall crown without much taper and a brim of no less than 2 1/2". The first hat you posted looks good, and you could wear a taller hat without any problem at all.
