My advice - take it or leave it no worries -Read up on the 'sale of goods act' that's not it's exact name but it'll come up on a Google search. It's the law in the UK and it covers goods and services purchased by you for non - merchantable quality, their opportunity to make good a repair etc, fair wear and tear and so reasonable deductions from refund value etc. But remember that this act covers your minimum rights in buying goods or services and you should expect rather more than the minimum service from a top maker like Alexander Leathers. Lastly when you have briefed yourself on your minimum rights have a discussion with Alexander Leathers -privately, I'm sure they'll sort it out properly for you - they seem to have been following their obligations to you so far.

Not sure what I'd do. Those Talon's busting isn't unheard of and not Al's fault - it's the product. I have to say I had one of those zips on an Al half-belt I just sold and I didn't think it was very well made. Prefer a YKK to be honest. The other issues on their own are all things that can happen to a jacket but annoying to experience them all at once. I had similar issues on a jacket of mine by a local bike jacket maker. They were all fixed but getting the offer of a new one would be nice customer service.

One of the things that apparently went wrong IMO more noteworthy than the zipper failure was "that the lining was fraying and really didn't look very resistant" makes me wonder what material was used to line the jacket and why it wore prematurely?

As I was saying I had a jacket that had some of the issues mentioned here too (by Mars Leather from Melbourne our version of Johnson Leathers) I had a zip break a pocket snap fall off and I had a cotton drill lining that frayed and tore within the first 3 months it was switched out and there were no following problems. I was pretty annoyed at the time.

The lining was apparently the classic Locharon cotton drill... For some reason the red one was a different quality to the black one used in the sleeves.

The black one is perfect, the red one just started acting weird, lots of lose threads coming out everywhere.

If it were me, I'd ask for a complete remake. A brand new jacket made by a premier manufacturer should have zero issues. Maybe one problem arises and it gets fixed, ok, still acceptable. But 6 months in and the back and forth shipping and fixing and retrofitting, it wouldn't give me a warm-and-fuzzy feeling about my new bespoke jacket. Just my 2 cents. Hope it all gets sorted out to your satisfaction.

+1 - this is my gut feeling as I've read through this thread. After all of the back and forth and inconvenience, I'd be shocked if they didn't agree that it was time to just build it from scratch.

Yeah, it's like a car that breaks down too often. You start to distrust it, or at least feel like it's second best, a Friday afternoon effort.

I just had one of Alexander leathers half belt type jacket's zipper fail completely. Steve worked everything out and paid me to have it replaced with a much more heavy duty zipper. While it was getting the zipper replaced I had the lining altered and trimmed. It is a very nice jacket now and Steve promised future consideration on future purchases. All is good.

I also had an Aero Thunderbay have the belt be way too long and needed 4 additional holes to tighten up correctly and brass reinf sinstalled, plus the lining fell down below the bottom of the jacket. I repaired the belt after Aero sent me the reinfs for the holes. 2 monthe later I had to have Aero repair it and alter the bottom width, Aero paid all the shipping and only charged me 100 GBP to alter the jacket. The normal alteration charge is 150GBP plus shipping both ways, another 120 GBP.. All now done and completed with another offer for future consideration on future purchases.

Both companies will work with you just like they worked with me. I called and talked directly with Steve and Denny and it was solved as we talked.

If you keep the jacket ask for a refund of 35% or the discount for a future purchase, both will offer/give it to you.

Keep in mind if you accept a future discount you can get a much more expensive coat and save that much more then have 2 nice jackets.

Tbh, in your shoes I'd have asked for my money back and not entertained any other solution. [huh] Too much gone wrong with one jackrt too quickly. I could have let the zip ride, but.... I'd push for the remake if you still want this particular AL jacket.

I have had issues on a few occasions with jackets. As I had waited so long to receive the jackets I settled, and as a result have sold them on. I once had an offer to replace an arm on a jacket but I thought it would never match in. Like many here, I put so much thought and angst into a purchase that really, within the parameters of a hand made item, you should expect it to be flaw free. In this case I would ask for a refund or a completely new jacket.

Thanks guys, i just sent them an email telling them i would only accept a remake or a full refund...

I know it's a pain, but i think it's fair, also, as many have said, i don't think i would enjoy the jacket as much knowing what had happened to it.

Anyway, will keep you guys updated.
