What is your favorite hat crease?

Just creased my Keens with spray-on starch, an iron on low, and a towel to protect the 50-year-old thin felt. Perfecto.

That is similar to how Jimmy Stewart wore his hats in several movies. If you want a C-Crown or Teardrop, use a piece of rope or tubing as a form to ease the angles into curves, but I kept the angles in my Campdraft.

Good tip, thanks Fed. I admit that I do like the 'rough and ready' look of it how it is at the moment.
I find it interesting how in a lot of old movies the hat bashes look really 'untidy' compared to how many are bashed these days.

I was able to spend some time practicing some shaping today at a local hat shop that a steamer and some hats that have been donated. I took the chance to try my hand at shaping. The manager of the shop gave me a hat that was anything but in good shape, but it offered some very interesting challenges. This hat had been patch with denim inside, spots in the hat had been hardened by some chemical application.
I wanted to share what I attempted to accomplish. I was asked to make a tear drop styled crown with a pinched front. After which I was asked to make the crown into a Gus styled crease. Please feel free to offer some advice on how I could make each present better. Just as a note, all the work was done by hand. No blocks or presses.

I like the look of a hand blocked crease, so much more character than pressed in factory = too sterile.
I also like the Montana Slope Gus cause they seem to morph with use.
For a teardrop/tycoon, I like a front to rear rake = tugboat profile over a flat one. JMHO

Thank you gentlemen. I enjoyed the challenge in shaping the hat. As a first attempt I was pleased to see that the general shape was achieved.
I will work on getting the rake into the crown. I did not even think about that.

I like both the C-Crown and Center Dent creases. Like others here, I also prefer to do my own creasing by hand, as well as doing my own ribbon work...
