I thought it was common knowledge that the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor. :D image.jpeg

I'm not sure if it's about being offended than undermining confidence in ELC. If you're half-way around the world and trying to work out if the guy you're handing a large amount of money to is on the level, then you look at the stuff 'around' the brand to get a feel for how they work: Are they brash in their Facebook posts, make bizarre and offensive statements and generally come off as the sort of people who think they're doing us a favour by making jackets? Or do they remember that we're really not interested in their politics and simply present their work in an attractive way, answer questions in a friendly and prompt manner, and make transactions as easy as possible. Not much to ask, tbh.

If I boycotted everyone that offended me, I would never get to see another movie again, because just about all of Hollywood are raving mad crackpots who long ago stopped living in the real world.

Valid point. The notion that the US government is systematically murdering its own citizens en masse evokes a particularly visceral response. That said, stripped of its emotional overtones, Eastman's conspiracy theories are arguably no more malicious or worthy of condemnation than the nonsensical ramblings of any other raver in need of Thorazine. Therefore, I certainly understand the prevailing sentiment that one should separate the jackets from the delirium, and patronage of the jackets does not constitute approval of the delusion.

Gary Eastman's views are explicated on a Blog that is part of the Eastman Leather website -- the same website where the jackets are sold. Moreover, the IG post includes #eastmanleathers and #elmc hashtags, such that the statements are being used to market the jackets (and Eastman allowed those hashtags to remain).

Just because they appear on a commercial vehicle of promotion does not necessarily mean it is part of a marketing strategy to sell products; rather, the impassioned views expressed could simply be those of a person who sees the reach of their website and IG account (over 11, 000 followers) as the best way to warn a large number of people they would not have access to on a personal basis of something they feel most strongly about.

I'm not suggesting doing this is a good idea per se, but I do know for certain that Gary very passionately believes in the message and he thinks posting was for the betterment of us all, and not hoping those who share this view will buy his goods. It was not a marketing tool, of that I'm convinced because Gary expressly stated it was not to me and what the actual intention was. Gary is not apologetic about his beliefs (except to make sure no veterans feel included) and, I'd say, proud to be associated with them and to have them associated with his brands or he would not have done what he did, at least based on what he communicated to me.

I've already stated I don't share these views in any way, shape, or form, but if others do, especially those I do business with, that's their call. I won't cease doing business over such personal views; it would take something more injurious and nefarious to do that.

I don't care to engage this topic much further as I'm now seeing this stray too far into contemporary politics, which is not cool to me or for this forum.

Agreed. As stated above, I have tempered my initial visceral response.

All kidding aside regarding Bluto Blutarsky's earlier statement, my only serious thought on the matter is that if I were selling widgets, it might be bad for business if I were to make political statements on my website. Making potentially inflammatory statements on Instagram that might outrage paying customers seems not an optimal business model.

Conspiracy theories. Nothing is as much fun as pointing out that 'Novo Ordo Seclorum' does not mean 'New World Order'.

So, when will we get a gander at this new/old jacket design?

Eastman says less than a month. I hope to have a production sample soon thereafter for shooting fit images. As of this moment and as with all other ELMC leather jackets, it will feature subtle TimeWear to the outer shell, but this could change.

Hmm, "could" change. Is there some reason for this? Is there video of this "TimeWear" and how do we know it's really leather? They have a sewer named Lee perhaps? Marilyn? I'm sensing something amiss here... :p

Looks like a Himel Kensington in many ways, especially with the double stitching along the main zip and chest pockets, and the gussetless sleeve zips.

I have read that the earliest J100s used double stitching in the same areas, so perhaps Gary, like the Himel boys, patterned the jacket after the early Buco models.

Personally I like this take on the J100. I wonder if it is the same leather as used in the Californian. If so, I think it may be a winner. It doesn't look like it gets the "time worn" treatment like the Californian, but hard to tell from the pics. This mild distressing is the only artificial wear application that I have ever liked (I have the Californian with this distressing).

I'm sure it will do well and have no doubt that it's well made. Not a fan personally of the gusset-less sleeves, but to each their own. The reality is that Buco made jackets for decades, and so each producer can pick a model year that suits them and still be true to an original. It's actually very good that ELMC's is a little different, the more variety the better.

The ELMC J-100 is the only ELMC leather jacket to NOT be offered in TimeWear. It does indeed meticulously copy a very early version that lacks sleeves gussets and has the double-stitching detail seen and noted.

These jackets have not been produced as yet in the full range of sizes, so I cannot offer the measures as yet, but I do have measures for a size 40R that will be listed later. I'm waiting for a sample size 40R (my size) to be sent, then a full range of sizes; once the measures are known by me, I'll post these on our website with the product.

Please look for a special, introductory price on this style for TFL members only, which will be listed on our affiliate thread and which will only be for a select few who respond within a short timeframe of action.

Yes, GregO, the J-100 horsehide is identical to that used on the Californian in the three shades offered on that style, so you should be equally pleased with the pedigree and character of this leather, absent any TimeWear.

The initial measurements provided for a 40R, which I'll post later, would seem to indicate you'll be between this and a 40L, but I want to measure the jackets we get in so as to have a constant that sets the measures in equivalent terms to everything else on our website.
