I like the contrast of the thin but I like the ribbon width of the 3/4? better and I believe its color enhances the hat color and vice versa better. Actually I'm loving the ribbon width. I asked Esther to specifically go some where less then 1 inch and bigger the 1/2. So many TAR's out there...

the wider is 5/8 ... and I'm just not really feeling it for the vibe I'm going for
I'm a thin ribbon guy at heart

Both look nice to me. Are u feelin the vibe w the hat creased or opened? And... how high is that open crown Moon?

open it's just over 6"
I obviously haven't seen it creased yet ... but I like the darker thin ribbon better for sure ...

this hat will have a center crease and a tight front pinch worn brim up much like Alans Borsalino that I am somewhat modeling it after

Obviously. I vibe ribbon width with crease/bash style as well as color.

hence why I said that I dig the thin dark ribbon for the vibe that I am going for

I also don't want a contrast and the thinner ribbon ... even if it doesn't look it from the pic... is almost the exact color of the felt

Moon, how did you correspond with Michael? Via Etsy? He doesn't seem to have a website or contact info listed elsewhere.

I'm eyeing a Whippet treatment with vintage dimensions in the Silvermist color. Yum.

Gannonhatco@gmail.com

The silvermist bodies are apparently the thinnest most lightweight bodies that he gets.

Eric and Chamuco can speak on this more each owning one ... but Michael himself has told me that for whatever reason , this is the case

You will love his hats ... They have a real vintage feel with a rugged modern edge.

a true artist on the come up

Quick update: I have been wearing my Gannon Traveler lots!

The light weight felt has been fun to mold. I spent some time waiting for a meeting to start this morning. Sitting in a chair I worked the crown molding it and changing it. Excellent felt as it took whatever my fingers made of it. Not any fancy, dancy "bash" or shape, but enjoying the ability to change from casual shape to another.

How are your Gannon fedoras doing? I hope they are getting much head time.

Best wishes folks, Eric -

Beautiful, Eric. Do you mind sharing the crown/brim dimensions? Yours is SPOT ON.

my newest Gannon is finished and ready to be shipped

I love how the hat came out ... I see this one getting a ton of head time

Michael said that he was able to get the felt very thin so it shapes very easily without steam and just crushes under the finger tips

for this reason he recommended that he ship it open crown ... which is perfectly fine with me

I am very pleased with the look ... can't wait to get it

I'll be ordering my 4th soon ... I'll finally have my Dark Moss "Wanderer"

but for now the Dark Brown "Alan-ish"

CMD; The crown is a big - nearly 6 " crown and brim is 2.5". The silver mist felt is very unique. As Anthony mentioned, silver mist felt ,while a very dense beaver felt, is not as thick as other colors. The silver mist felted hats I have are very malleable. I have wondered in other posts if this may have to do with the treatment of the beaver hairs, "bleaching," that makes the felt different. If you like a "stay-put" brim and bash, you may wish to look for a different color. My silver mist hat brims move in medium winds, they take other shapes when brushed up against brush or tree limbs. I like the way they organically take shape during the day. The thinner felt I wear in the warmer weather. I imagine they are not really cooler by much, but I don't mind being a bit self delusional. It makes me feel cooler.

IMO: Perhaps my most versatile colored beaver felt is dove. Silvermist just stands out. Moss green is rich and luxurious. Charcoal is classy and not black. Sahara is a warm color and versatile in its range. Sage green is a luxurious minty green. Blue mist is just a color everyone needs for those blue/gray clothing days. Silverbelly is a must own felt.

I hope this assists.

Best, Eric -

Late edit - Sir you may wish to view the VS forum thread. Both VS and Gannon use Winchester beaver felts. The bespoke hats using the Winchester felts should be used as references, regardless of artist. A member, Rabbit has posted up some magnificent pics of hats in the different color felts. He has collaged many hats in each color. Just an excellent way to see the felt colors in action. Not to mention check out Rabbits hats. Rabbit has one of the most enviable bespoke hat collections in the world. Worth a peak. This is certainly no disrespect to Michael's products. Art Fawcett, the artist of VS, is the jedi master of bespoke hatters (IMO). Michael may very well have the "force," but their are Jedi masters in the universe. The force be with you.
