This looks like it might be the place to start instead of posting a separate thread, so ........

I really like the style of Ed Harris' "Man in Black" hat on the Westworld series.

Does anyone know what it is, and/or where to find one? I'm not looking for an exact replica necessarily, just the style (similar brim, crown, etc.).

Thanks for the help!

Let’s talk about Ed Harris’s character, The Man in Black. He’s a fan favorite, and his outfit is particularly amazing.

There’s a very old-school hippie weaver in upstate New York, near Woodstock, who wove the fabric for his jacket. We had another artisan hand-paint it afterwards. And his hat we got at Baron Hats — I was totally starstruck walking into that place, because everyone in Hollywood goes there to have hats made, and they have all these beautiful wooden hat forms on display. I got to hold Diane Keaton’s hat form!

They have the hat for sale here - https://www.baronhats.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=393

Haven't a horse in this race, but that thread is seven years old, not sure how relevant it is today? Do agree the website is still very 'wordy' though.

At least in looking around various sites just now, online reviews for them for the past several years seem nearly all positive. Just trying to help the poster andway, more details of the hat and dimentions I found on their blog pages too, if he'd rather look elsewhere.

Same as you, I have no vested interest but there have been other posts about the company in various threads, some more recent than eight years ago and I can't remember any being positive. The fact that the thread is eight years old, given the interest in hats, both vintage and custom here on TFL says a lot to me. There are a number of custom hatters here with copious amounts of positive reviews that could make a hat similar to what the OP wants.

I know a friend of mine had a reproduction hat made for him that Baron made for his favorite movie. They were very troublesome, but he did get the hat in the end.

Ed Harris's costume in 'Westworld' was just a tweaked copy of the one he wore in 'Appaloosa'

If you don't want to pay for a custom job then buying a used western hat (Stetson or Resistol) from the bay of the right color, dimensions etc. then steaming it into the desired style, might be a cheaper & more fun option.;)

Speaking of Baron Hats, it's reassuring to see that they've got it wrong again as they so often do......the Baron's 'Westworld ' hat on the link a few posts up (post #663) has a lower crown, sharper side dents, more pronounced center crease & what looks like a slightly narrower brim than the TV show's hat.

Thanks for all of the feedback. That nails it! However, that Baron version is pretty spendy. I am going to try to pull up the dimensions, and then try to find something similar for less money.

I just want the look -- I don't really care about authenticity.

Again, I appreciate the help!

Noticed Jurrasic Park showed up on Netflix. Gave it a watch, better than I remembered. Then again I read the book before watching the movie first time round. Decided to watch some more Sam Neill and came across "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" Great little film I would highly recomend seeing....... What I find odd is Sam is an actor that seems to be better in movie where he wears a hat. Odd
Johnny.
Now where can one buy a panama hat like he wore in Jurrasic Park?

I believe it is an open crown Sunbody rather than a Panama.

Here is the link to their instructions for shaping:

And here is one that I shaped:

Sorry I posted this by mistake in the old topic about Barons.
I had a client who some how puckered up the sweatband (I think she tried to steam the brim and got some into the crown which did it) on the hat I made her. She took it to Barons and the guy told her I made the sweatband too big (huh?). He then recommended he fix it for her. She asked me for a refund (after wearing it for 3 months taking a bunch of photos of her riding in it and loaded them to FaceBook) and when I offered to replace the sweatband instead, she got mad and told me she would have Barons do it. Wait until she finds out that it will probably cost her the same as what I charged her to make the hat.

Just in case anyone else is interested, here are the specs for the MIB hat:

Hand crafted in distressed rabbit felt the crown is 4 ¼” tall, 3 ¾” wide and designed with a center dent and finished with a subtle pinch

Is there anyone in particular that you all recommend for Western hats?
