Everyone deals with stress differently.
I saw this in combat. We called it "shell-shock".
But it was more then that.
We know that the body has a self-defense mechanism
& everyone one reacts differently.
I see this on accidents on the road everyday.
I work for tv news.
Survivors who are not hurt in the
accident, nevertheless go into shock.
One lady who said she was fine and appeared to
be fine sat down by the sidewalk. I advised her
to have someone drive her home instead.
I kept her name and later I asked how she was doing.
She told me on the way home, she broke
down and would have had another
accident if she had driven the car.
She still has fears about driving. She
thanked me for taking the time.
Another time a lady was involved in a freeway
accident. Her car was spun around
several times and stopped on the middle
of the access rode.
She sat looking straight oblivious of the
situation. I ran to her and told her,
"Lady you got to get out of the car!"
She looked like she was in a trance.
I immediately took her out to the side.
She had no idea where she was and
never said a word.
Soon after a truck slammed into her car
and completely wiping it out.

I ran up the access road waving at cars
exiting the freeway, trying to tell them
to slowdown, but they ignored me.
I could hear the screeching of the tires
and the sickening sound of metal hitting
metal.

You’ve got to take care of yourself when someone
has died, as the stress can really affect you physically
and emotionally. Take some time out to recover and relax.
Find out about some things you can do to help you cope.

If you feel that things are building up, it can help to talk
to someone you trust. If you can’t turn to your friends
and family, visit your GP or a counsellor. They’ll be able to
suggest some things you can do to help you through the
grieving process.
You don’t have to cope with it alone.

Returned from L.A. last night. When I first arrived there a week ago, my brother was sitting up and talking. A day or two later he stopped eating and it was a slow slide after that. He passed away two days ago.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your brother Tiki Tom. I'm glad you were able to be with him and his/your family at the end. Keep sharing your feelings with those you love -- it will help you all.

I don’t know who first observed that you don’t “get over” such a loss so much as you get used to it.

There is no getting over it, not that you’d wish to. There are places in my heart, places occupied by my since departed loved ones, that will forever remain theirs and theirs alone. It’s the most trying thing about getting older, this losing so many important others.

Joe Namath, Broadway Joe, swaggering, wisecracking, guaranteeing victory for his upstart NY Jets in the Super Bowl, etc., THAT JOE NAMATH, is now featured in TV ads for Medicare supplemental insurance.

Say it ain’t so, Joe.

But then, he appeared in ads for pantyhose, wearing ’em, something like 40 years.

Joe was at Wrigley Field last summer. The Cubs had offered him $50k out of high school
but his mom was insistent that he accept Alabama's football scholarship instead. Great guy and Time flies.

I saw that ad a few days ago. As old and tired as he looked it still bothers me more that I am old enough to remember him in his prime. Time flies indeed.

Talk about names you haven't thought of in years. I saw that ad the other night, and my first thought was "Wow, is he still alive?" I looked at the ad again and I still wasn't sure.
Yes, Joe hasn't aged well.

When he guaranteed victory, we all kind of snickered. But then he seemed so confident. We began to wonder a bit. Our confidence in the Colts had just a flicker of doubt. Could he really do it? Nah, surely not.

That game established the AFL (now the AFC) as a competitive league. Now they are pretty much even in Super Bowl victories. I think the NFC has two more wins than the AFC in 50+ games, but I would call that parity. And after that game, attendance steadily rose.

All thanks to Joe Namath.

Here is an indication of the impending end of our civilization......my wife is knitting 'Avocado Socks" as hostess gifts as we make the Christmas rounds in a few weeks. We saw the originals on line and as my wife loves to knit and we all have enough socks, toques etc to last another life time she switched to knitting socks for Avocados. Yes, socks for avocados not just socks coloured dark green. They supposedly aid in the ripening of said item by holding in the gasses emitted during ripening. The socks hold the gasses in but let the moisture escape and supposedly guarantee proper ripening in 48 hours. So now we have a family of coddled avocados sitting on our counter all cozy and warm.

I've told my girlfriend many times that it would be a smart choice to come back in our next life as our dog as his life is infinitely better than ours.

I wasn’t troubled by Joe Namath’s physical appearance (he is 75 now, after all) in that ad so much as his agreeing to appear in it at all.

That was my thought when I saw that Roy Clark died. I thought he died ages ago.

It’s a bit disturbing to hear Jimmy Dean’s voice on TV ads for the pork sausage brand bearing his name.

The man has been dead eight years. Hearing the recordings of since-deceased musicians and other performers doing what they did to make their names is one thing; hearing their voices shilling for a product is another.

It's bad enough the current owners of Fred Rogers' voice sold him out to Google, but now they've also sold him out to Hallmark, and I suppose, to anyone else who'll cough up the cash. A man whose entire working life was spent opposing the Boys From Marketing and everything they stand for is now, in death, under their full control. The profound immorality of that utterly beggars belief.

I was going to say the only thing worse would be to use Jesus Christ himself to peddle merchandise, but that's been going on for a very long time. Deck the halls with advertising.
