My daughter is getting married this October, it's a country wedding in the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Because it's a country wedding I've decided to wear a tweed suit. This is what I've put together so far.

The suit is a shetland tweed from Walker Slater, the yellow tab collar shirt is custom made from Brooks Bros. The tie is a purple and grey paisley. The black balmoral boots are from Enzo Bonafe. I'll be wearing the Stetson St. Regis Homburg as opposed to the bowler in the first picture.

What do you guys think?

Hi,
it's a country wedding so go with Homburg! The suit is grey?

Sharp. I especially like the shirt-tie-jacket combination. Works really well together and shows personal style. I like that it is not a "safe" off-a-department-store-mannequin look. We had a close friend in Virginia who called that sort of look "country elegance". Thumbs up. (For what it is worth, I prefer the Stetson, but that's just me.) I also like the shoes a lot. Best wishes for a happy, festive celebration filled with love and joy.

Yes, charcoal grey.

Ok nice, the black Homburg match perfectly.... If it were me, I changed the ribbon from the hats to charcoal as well, but I go too far to the promenores ;-)

I wish you all the best for this wedding.

Super ensemble IMO! The boots are off the hook!! The only caveat, don't upstage the bride, GWD!! Have fun; DO what you're told!

Even for a country wedding I'd still opt for a white or pale blue/white collar shirt, which would imo suit the tie better. The boots are marvellous.

Who is that gaunt-looking fellow with the pipe and fez?

I think you look terrific (love the heavy weight and look of the suit) - and it's hard to believe you won't be one of, if not thee, best dress person there.

As kinda implied by others above, my only recommendation would be to run your outfit by the your daughter and her fiancee as it's their wedding and you want to make sure your style fits whatever they are trying to do.

Most importantly - congratulations and the best for a wonderful day.

Thanks for the input guys! I never considered upstaging my daughter, I don't think that's even possible! She has seen the pictures as well, and I have full approval.

To address some of the comments; I went with the pale yellow shirt because it mirrors the stitching in the suit's windowpane pattern and it's going to be an autumn wedding and we'll be surrounded by golden Aspen trees. The gaunt-looking fellow is just a prop, he's is the center piece of my Mid-Century Modern man cave.

I think you look great, GWD! I would quibble with the formality of a few accessories, like those boots. While exquisite, black boxcalf balmorals are a bit smart for a tweed suit, in my opinion. I'd have gone with boots/shoes in suede or pebble grain, perhaps with open lacing - maybe a norwegian split toe or a pair of double-soled brogues. Ditto for the homburg, but especially if it is black. I think that beautiful shetland tweed calls for a hat that is soft, nappy, and in a country shade. But, these objections are solecisms of a dead language, if we're being honest. It's a tasteful ensemble without question. Wear it with joy! Congratulations to the soon-to-be newlyweds!

Patrick, I agree with you to a certain extent, however reading about the history of the balmoral boot, it was developed for royalty to walk in the fields around Balmoral Castle in the morning dew so as to keep their feet dry. You can't get more "country" than that! (At least this was the story I read.) It could be "Alternative Facts". I do have some reservations with the Homburg, I have a few very nice fedoras that would go equally well.

Thanks GWD! Your facts are NOT alternative! They did indeed originate with Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria. You are correct that they were birthed as a country boot. And certainly there are a variety of balmoral boot makeups that could still evoke that rustic origin - I used to own a ruddy brown pair of bals with a fuzzy green tweed vamp, brass speed hooks, and a beefy double leather sole. They were so rustic, even a tweed suit felt too smart for them! My quibble with your lovely pair, is that they are classic dress boots yearning for spongebags and a morning coat - black boxcalf on a chiseled last with a high shine toe cap, and a minimum of brogueing. As balmorals go, yours are as smart as they come!

But, as I said, we're well into the realm of menswear arcana here. They are beautiful boots, and they will do you proud!

It's been a while since I've been on the FL, so I thought update the thread. I opted for my NOS Schoble Fedora instead of the Homburg. I know some of you frown on sunglasses with a full brim hat, but the Sun is overpowering at this altitude. Also, for you purist, yes I'm wearing a watch to an event, (which I've read you're not supposed to do), but It was my grandfathers who had recently past away and I thought it was a nice touch. It's a solid gold 1946 Rolex Bubble Back.

You must be very proud GWD. Great outfit and what a beautiful setting. Congratulations to your daughter and son-in-law.
Agreed, I've been to a couple of weddings in the last twelve months, it's always a concern that you might upstage the happy couple, but you got it right on the button. Just loved the photo of you and your daughter.

Well sir, although you looked good, I think every man here will agree that you did not upstage your daughter....
