They're pretty cool! There's a bunch of electric skateboard and unicycle things popping up around here, but the Onewheel has the most cool factor, IMHO. There's a go-kart tire in the middle and software/hardware to keep it balanced.

January 2nd marks the 116th anniversary of the death of CSA General James Longstreet in 1904. January 8th will mark the 199th anniversary of his birth in 1821. A West Point graduate, Longstreet had served in the Mexican - American War from 1846-1848, & frontier duty in the American Southwest in the 1850's before resigning his commission to enlist in the CSA as a strong advocate for states rights but not succession.
After the Civil War ended & President Lincoln had been assassinated, Longstreet was denied amnesty by President Andrew Johnson who said in his denial, "There are three persons of the South who can never receive amnesty: Mr. Davis, General Lee, and yourself. You have given the Union cause too much trouble."

For many yrs Longstreet's post War reputation took a hit from the former Confederacy due to actions under his command at the Battle of Gettysburg, & his critical writings & statements of Lee & the Lost Cause. Eight yrs after his death his 2nd wife was still campaigning for a statue to be erected in his honor at Gettysburg.
Longstreet had tried to address those allegations in his memoirs published in 1896, but it wasn't until the publication of Michael Shaara's two novels relying heavily on those memoirs some 80 yrs later & the subsequent movies where Longstreet was played by Tom Berenger, that perception of him began to change.

PS: If someone is ever needed to play Longstreet in his later yrs of life I nominate David Crosby.

Thanks BB. Worthy of an additional comment is "Devil Dan" Sickles, as the conscripted/enlisted men under his command called him. While it is true that Major Sickles was a brave man & he lost his leg at Gettysburg on July 3rd, 1863, it is also true that in 1859 he was acquitted of shooting & killing his wife's lover in front of the Whitehouse. Her lover was Phillip Barton Key II, the son of Francis Scott Key.
Sickles defense was temporary insanity, the first time such a defense was ever used at trial. It's no wonder Sickles went on to have a successful post War career in politics.

Thanks for some history lessons, Jack. Longstreet was from Edgefield SC, which is where my Williams ancestors were from.

He was a complicated man. He fathered 10 children with his first wife. Only 5 of the 10 children lived to reach adulthood. In 1862 they lost 3 children within a couple of wks of each other. It is said that event changed him forever. He lost his wife prematurely at age 62.

A young Nate Salsbury (1846 - 1902)
In 1883 by chance Nate Salsbury met William F. "Buffalo Bill” Cody and soon became Cody’s Tour Manager for Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. Salsbury would later become Vice President, General Manager & business partner with Cody. He is credited with hiring sharpshooter Annie Oakley and Chief Sitting Bull among others, for the popular show.
