Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I did not list a 'make offer' . These were informal...'will you accept'..... two with a 'and I will pay right away'.....then nothing after I sent a message accepting. It is like a flu is going around. I have sold upwards of 250 items on the Bay and this is the worst I have experienced.

I haven’t seen this on my sales. However, I usually included some wording in my listings that I’ve started the auction for the lowest I’ll accept and I’m not interested in messages with lower offers. I’m about 70/30 when I list for “no offers” or “open to offers,” but more than half the time I’ll add the buy it now option.

I had the opposite happen. Made an offer via PM and was accepted by the seller. He jus had to figure out how to do it. Then They cut off communication entirely. Ended up just waiting around 9 days and winning the auction that never got bids till the last day.

I'v seen (and passed up) many Merrimac's in antique shops. I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. But maybe it will be a pleasant surprise!

I can understand that. Not likely a wool hat is going to outmatch a fine fur. But considering what I paid for it... I couldn’t be in for much more than the let down of ordering a dinner off the Chili’s value menu. I mean.. you aren’t expecting too much... but you might walk away with a good meal at great price! LOL. At this point for me different is interesting.

It arrived today... so I can tell you this much. As expected It is a more course texture than a fine fur felt. But Still thin and shapes excellently. The color is actually a milk chocolate.

The JC Penney Co Inc logo seems to be an older one... maybe mid century

Im guessing the wool Merrimac’s were sold at JC Penney as a lower priced offering to the Marathon line?... or Marathon an in-house brand and Merrimac an outside brand. At least they appear to have been sold concurrently. As I’ve seen both older and newer JC Penney logos on Marathons.

I’ll give a full report in a few days

Thanks Garrett. Looking forward to checking it out. I believe this may be my only Resistol fedora to date.
Got one just like it made a little earlier in pretty decent shape, though not as mint as this piece. I’m sure yours will be, at least, as sweet as mine, so I’m not a bit worried about you suffering buyer’s remorse.
Garrett’s right. Except for one of my Borsalinos this particular Resistol: “Monroe”, as it’s called and stamped, on mine, has the finest hand of any in my humble collection. It seems that this style was called by that name for only a few years. I’d like to know who this hat was temporarily named after. Till I find the answer I’ll be happy to think it was after the Father of Bluegrass: “Big Mon” Bill Monroe.

I always pay right away, and sellers' feedback of me says so. I didn't know that saying so would help me get a seller to accept an offer.

And if I send a seller an offer and he doesn't accept it, but later decides it was a good offer, can he send me a message asking if my offer is still open? I mean, is my info registered on the listing, so that he can contact me later?
I have sometimes made offers that are more than reasonable for a listing that is clearly overpriced, and the item doesn't sell, but a seller has not contacte me back later.
