I got the acorn a month back. It never really felt right. I had to raise the crown because it was sitting on my head. Then I gave it more of pinch, which didn't work. Then I messed with the brim some because there was a little too much flange to brim ratio for my taste. Anyway, being inspired by this thread, I'll take it out again. Maybe I'll steam it open and start over again. They are definitely made well no questions there. BUt like someone said earlier, there's a little too much taper for me. I want to make it work though because I love the color and build quality.

I’m sure with a little effort you’ll be able to get everything suited to your liking. I was a little unsure about which crease to use on my Acorn Fawn but I knew it wasn’t going to be a diamond. My Regency Fawn Sydney is almost the same color as the Acorn Fawn so I didn’t want a hat that looked similar. I even contemplated leaving it with its factory crease but with a little steam Akubras are fun to reshape. Good luck with your reshape.

thanks. we got the same hats : ) I love the Sydney. I was hoping the Stylemaster acorn was going to be substantially lighter, but it's very close to the Regency (I think that's it of the Sydney). Luckily the hats "feel" different. On the Sydney I've got a wide center crease, somewhat tight pinch, with deep front/side dents Played around with Stylemaster today. I think for me, it looks best as a "jazzy" style, brim up kind of thing. With my face shape, it doesn't have the dimensions to snap the brim and get all the right angles. I got the crease pretty close back to the original, a wider, higher tear-dropish pinch and that part of it is fine.

Christmas came early this morning and I got 2 Fed 4s. And that is just my jam. It's exactly what I'm looking for. And the Tawny Fawn was the light shade I needed to give me variety with the Sydney. And the Carbon grey is just a stunner. Has like this almost purple glow to it.

Oh and I like that green look with the diamond you put in. The pinch is tighter which is what I typically like. I'll give that a try anyways.

It sounds like we have much of the same hats. I love my Carbon Grey Stylemaster, it’s a great color. I have Fed IV’s in Tawny and Moonstone. I have a pretty good choice of colors to choose from with my Akubras.

Telescope looks great. Very Sinatra, imo.
Thanks so much. I really like the way it turned out. It was the first time I tried a telescope crease. I wasn’t thinking Sinatra at the time, I was thinking more of Perry Mason. :)

I steamed in a diamond crease in my Stylemaster as well. But me and my teakettle couldn't get the defined bubble in the crown like you did. Nice work!!!

Diamond crease seems to minimize the taper appearance in the front by widening the sides.

I tried doing a pork pie crease, but there's not enough felt in the crown to pull it off.

I can’t say enough about the excellent service that Naomi & Trudi deliver. Their communication and hand written thank you notes are the things that let you know that they care about their customers. I chose Bluegrass Green and Acorn Fawn. I’m very pleased with both hat colors and I think they photographed fairly accurate to the actual colors. I changed the bash/crease on each from the factory teardrop crease. I really like a diamond crease so I added that to the Bluegrass green Stylemaster.

I wanted to change things up a bit with my Acorn Fawn Stylemaster so I added a telescope crease with very slight side dents.

I’m pleased with how each Stylemaster took their respective creases. Now that each Stylemaster is ready I’m excited to start wearing them.

Nice pork pie. I love the look in a fedora style but I just don’t think I can pull it off myself. The style always seem a little “cocky” if you know what I mean. Wear it in good health

It's a style I associate with feeling very confident, feeling like you have your look just bang on and you can walk tall.... I guess that's the Chairman persona. I love the look of a hat like that with slacks, collar and tie, and a Harrington-type jacket, very sort of fifties-casual. Or a two piece suit and a camp-collar folded out over the lapels. Very Hep Cat. Works equally well with a more traditional approach a la Perry Mason, though.

Finally got my Stylemaster situation figured out. First of all, I ordered the Carbon Grey in size 60cm (7 1/2) from Hats by the Hundred. 60cm is my normal size, but it was definitely too small for the Stylemaster. I ended up sending it back for a 61cm, and it fits great. Not sure if they all run a bit small, but this particular one did. FYI, having the hat shipped here from Australia cost about $17, but when I shipped back the returned hat, the cheapest I could send it USPS was nearly $30. That really stung. I could have ordered it for more from David Morgan, but ultimately would have ended up ahead. Oh well, I know that is the inherent risk in ordering overseas. Earlier, before I purchased it, I had made a post asking why in some photos of people wearing it, the hat looks more "blockish" from the front (how I like it) and in other photos it looks like a triangle sitting on someone's head. I figured out that when the photo is taken as a selfie from the front facing camera on your phone, no matter you hold it, it comes out looking like a triangle. But if you use the rear facing camera, such as in a mirror or someone else taking the photo, it looks more square and true to life. Not exactly sure why that happens, but that is how it works nonetheless. The reason I mention this is that it was a huge factor on why I waffled on buying the Stylemaster for months. I took a chance, and it worked out to my liking. So if you are wondering, it does actually look more blockish in person. Overall, the crown is a tiny bit shorter than I would like, but not much. I think I am just used to how my Campdraft looks, which I have bashed with a fairly tall crown. Here are some photos on how it looks on my particular head, and I am also including some photos side by side with my Capricorn to give some perspective on the size if anyone is wondering. The Stylemaster is shorter and thinner overall, but not much.

Did you customized the hatband on the capricorn yourself?
Yes, I used an old patterned shirt for the hatband on the Capricorn. I didn't care for the one that came with it. It was a polka-dot pattern that I have never seen before in any photos online or on the lounge. Plus, the one that came with it was too wide for my liking.

When I ordered my most recent Stylemaster’s from The Hattery (hats direct.com), Naomi and Trudy measure the hats before shipping. I wanted a navy Stylemaster in a 61. They emailed me and stated that while the hats was labeled a 61 it was closer to a 60. I declined that hat and ordered the Acorn that was a true 61. The ladies attention to detail saved me the hassle of having to return a hat overseas. I’m glad in the end you received a Stylemaster to your liking.

I have similar thoughts on my stylemaster as well. I'm not enamored with it because of the lower crown. But no doubt I love the quality and you get a lot more than what you paid for. I've "graduated" to bigger things like Fed 4, Bushman, etc. so it just feels like a little kid now LOL. I played with the pinch a bit, but then realized I was basically taking away the essence of the hat, and I already have so many open crown to have fun with. So did my best to get it back to that broader shape you mention. Think it's pretty close. I did have to raise the height slightly though because it was sitting on top of my head which helps the height, but takes away from some of the curvature of the point at the center. I've tried a bunch of different ways, and for my face, overall style, etc. I've found it's basically a "fun" hat for me, that I can wear with shorts and tshirt, brim popped up. I have the acorn color though, so maybe if it was darker, I'd feel different. Funny because I think others have mentioned it's more of a dressier hat for them. LOL. Guess that's what makes this hobby fun.

edit: Oh, and a big thumbs up to Naomi and Trudi as well. They're shipping me out a few new hats. They got a new style to their inventory called Avalon. Don't think they posted to their site yet. It comes in this killer blue/grey color called Tempest that they were nice enough to fast track for me. I'm also getting a Riverina in Sand because I want a light color finally, and all the fawn stuff is just too similar. Lastly, my bucket list item was always a black Snowy River. So finally checked that off.

Hello, first time shopping for a nice hat and not sure how these are supposed to fit and look. I see in some photos slightly bigger fit than this, and in other places right about where this is. It fits snug and there's some space in the back to insert a finger tip. Keep this or size up one? Opinions welcome!

I think it looks great on you; not too big and not too small. But it is totally about if YOU like the way it looks. For me, I like it on the larger side because having any pressure on my forehead drives me nuts, and for my face, I like when it is wider so when looking at it from the front of the crown, I don't get the triangle/pinhead look. But that is just my preference. For you, I don't think you'll go wrong either way by keeping it as is, or going up a size.

Fit is a very personal thing as is style
I think the hat looks good on you for whatever that’s worth. If the hat is at all uncomfortable it needs to be addressed.

Looks good. It’s really hard to get size and fit information on the internet. If you have a store near you that sells hats try on different sizes. Western stores usually carry a wide variety of sizes in western/cowboy hats. The style doesn’t matter the fit/size does. If you go this route stay away from hats sized S,M,L, and XL. Those sizes can be really inaccurate.

The hat does look good on you, if it's tight on day one then I would be concerned because with wear the hat will get tighter and a tight hat will not be comfortable.
If it fits good now but becomes a little tight you can order yourself a hat jack and keep it fitting well, not a bad investment if you are going to be buying and wearing hats in the future.
You can measure your head to get your size with a fabric tape measure.
