Thanks, Shawn and his team really did a great job with this one! Yeah, 5 cm longer sleeves would have looked pretty weird.
It could also be a length thing? I specified the length to be just a tiny bit longer than my Wrangler trucker which hits a bit above my behind. This one touches it and with the hem being tight there I think it can create that bunching effect. But to me it’s really a minor issue. It takes the jacket from being 10/10 to 8/10, I still really like it.

Ive been toying with the idea of a springtime jacket in 5*’s reddish brown buffalo suede. I was thinking a bit of a trucker-CR hybrid with a clean front, mandarin collar and snap front closure. I had a sense I’d seen something similar but couldn’t think where .... and then it came to me, hahahah.

That's indeed a factor as well. Longer jackets with a relatively narrow bottom hem opening will 'land' on the hips which in turn causes a bunching effect. That's what we're seeing here with this FL jacket.
(This fellow lounger's jacket has already been sold on to someone else so I think it's ok to use it as an example. Not my intention to diss anyone's jacket)

I think it's a little too long at the back. Because not buttoned, it fits great. But if you only work with hot water at the back, it should shrink a bit.
Dude this looks fantastic!! Perfect fit imho. Nicely done!! That goat s surprisingly nice. Sturdy but light. It’s become my favorite leather to wear. Your jacket looks superb!

That looks great! I also think the back looks okay, especially when you wear it unbuttoned. It will also probably be less noticeable when you layer up.
Agree I think it's the waist not being tapered enough and the bottom sweeep resting on your pants that makes the lower back bunch up.
Love how the design transferred well to the goatskin. Hope you get to wear this jacket a lot

I was initially excited about the idea of a customized, inexpensive jacket.
I have been looking for a year for a used Aero that would fit me in the size 46 range and have seen literally nothing. So I wondered if Shawn could do me up a nice cafe racer styled jacket. Essentially the design that is already listed on his site, but with chest pockets, gussets, and a more customized sizing for me - that's it. I basically asked him for a size 46 with wider shoulders, but yet a narrower P2P, with chest pockets and gussets on the back.
He told me this would be $350 USD shipped with his leather selection. Considering his base cafe jacket is 160 this seemed like a big jump for me.
The hangup for me is that I find the leathers he uses all very ordinary. Many of the designs you guys have chosen look wonderful, and ideally suited to the leathers he has on hand. I wanted a tougher, grainy, stiff leather (like horse obviously) to make a jacket from. I have a hard time justifying 350 for a relatively simple cafe style in cowhide, because I can get jackets locally that are a fair bit less money in similar styles. I live in Canada; a short drive from my house is Lusso Leathers, which also makes custom jackets, and they can sell me a cowhide cafe style jacket for $250 USD, custom tailored to my shape. Off the rack in local stores it's possible to find simple cafe style jackets that are around $150-175.
It would seem to me that this buying model has value only if, 1.) You can get a super-duper, unheard-of pattern that's impossible to find anywhere else, yet costs 350 to get it, or 2.) You can ask for a design that comes in a much superior leather than is normally available for 350.
He said he'd be getting horse leather in a few months. If he does, and if it looks awesome, I'll see about a cafe design. Otherwise...I honestly don't see the value. Am I missing something here?

Yeh, in all seriousness I am thinking:
Golden tan buffalo suede throughout
Clean front with no pockets
Simple back with just a straight yoke
Stiff mandarin collar
Antique brass snap closure down the front
Maybe side adjusters just so it isn’t too spartan
I am surprised he quoted you this much... I think that your reasoning is very sound, and I don't see how you are missing anything.
You can see a few pages back all the pros and cons I had with the smoke (thread has been merged). In your circumstances, I would go local. You will get a perfect fit, and you can avoid any pattern issues such as straight sleeves, baggy back, etc.

I experimented with not buttoning the lowest button, the issue disappeared. This makes me think it’s a combination of two things: 1. The extra 2 cm length compared to the jacket that I used as a template and 2. I probably should’ve added a cm in hem width to account for the thicker leather compared to the denim.
I’m a bit afraid to try hot water, what if it shrinks in width as well as length? It’s already tight enough around the hem. If I decide to risk it, what temperature should the water be?
Thanks brother! I must say I’m really impressed with 5*, they nailed all the measurements I requested. Laser precision. I’m really happy I went with your recommendation for the seal goat! Thick but light and easy to wear and with plenty of grain. The sleeve creases are already settling in.
Thanks buddy, me too! I have a feeling I will wear this a lot when it’s warm enough for leather again!
Your comment made me curious so I tried with a sweater under, and it’s a lot less noticeable.

I generally wear mine with the last button undone to avoid the bunching up.
If it works with the bottom button open, then I wouldn't do anything. It will probably subside a little with time anyway.

If hot water, then maybe just the marked spot. Of course, there is some risk involved. I would take it as hot as it comes from the line. But only if the dissatisfaction should get too big.
Yes, I think you are probably missing something. Five Stars have a demonstrated ability to please very particular leather jackets aficionados here with their pattern making, quality construction and leather. That alone makes them stand out. Lusso hasn't created even a flicker of interest here. However, it would be very interesting for us to see what they can do - the customer photos on their site don't impress - maybe you can change this.

Tbh, for a cafe racer I would recommend finding a good vintage one. Old Schott, Bates, Brooks, Kehoe racers can be found in good condition at a relatively cheap price. And they look a lot better than the racers that I’ve seen from 5* and what Lusso showcases on their website.
