What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

They're not my boots, but I'm going to guess that they are either John Lofgren boots or the Flat Head copies of the John Lofgren engineers. I see a storm welt so it basically has to be one of those two. They look too new to have had a resole done. Based on the edge color and the heel height, I'm going to guess that they are the Flat Head copies of the Lofgrens.

These are from Grease Point Workwear. One man denim maker out of the Pacific Northwest. He's fantastic. When he says workwear, he really means it. The jeans come standard with double fronts for use for actual manual labor, but I opt to get rid of that because I'm clearly just wearing them for style.

I like olive, and that particular olive is awesome. It really caught my eye.

I’m at their website now. How does sizing compare to the more common stuff, say Levi’s 501? I’m looking at the 14oz work trouser, which I assume is what you wear. Cheers.

This made me LOL a little bit. My first job after college was on a pipe gang with the City of Chicago, as part of the labor union. I dug out around valves, hydrant flanges, pipe joints etc after the equipment operator dug the hole, prepping it for the plumber. All separate unions, of course (1001, 150and 130). It was insanely dirty and hard work. I would’ve never considered doing that job in a $300 pair of pants.

It is funny. How repro and vintage inspired makers are so meticulous and use old school techniques and materials trying to nail the past. Or as in the vintage inspired and not exact repro makers spend so much time accelerating aging or fades, or using different materials to create new spins on an old look. And some are amazing and certainly deserve the high price tag. Some based on the old school production methods or high cost materials can’t help but charge a steep price. Some not only create a product but could be considered pieces of art, truly some could be. Some are certainly way overpriced. Really and truly overpriced no matter how you break it down. While modern honest work wear can sometimes still be expensive-but 9/10 times its significantly cheaper. Modern workwear standards and safety rules would mean so much of what we like wouldn’t be legal to wear in some places. Some would fail tests to be considered safe at all. We fashionistas, hipsters, vintage lovers, repro lovers, costume wearing, role playing, re-enactors, whatever we call ourselves or are thought to be can spend so much for a look or feeling (and this is no judgment-if I judged I wouldn’t be a member here spending so much time and money. So we’re clear I love it all just as much!) for workwear that in today’s world would be considered a failure.

Having said all that since I’ve been looking for nice olive colored corduroys or twills under 250... I did find this brand Topo Designs. I’ve read good things about them for the price. Not the worlds best but also only 98 dollars. They have my size in stock, only thing I’m not sure of is the fit. They are slim straight which I wear but they are stretch. I don’t know if I’m alone but I dislike stretch fits for the most part. So anyone have any experience with them? I’m on the fence and literally split 50/50 on to do it or not. I also love and adore some chocolate duck chinos I found from Leftfield but sold out in my size on their site and at Franklin and Poe where I found them as well.

It’s not. It’s a garden variety Buffalo, dyed straight through. I believe the same stuff Levi’s uses on there leather type III. It takes a bit more work to make these cheapo jackets look good I think.
