So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

This thread has wandered away from "trivial but it ticks you off". As fascinating as first aid kits may be, where's the "trivial but it ticks you off" factor?

In an effort to get back on track I'd like to offer a truly "trivial but it ticks you off" topic.

"Pants" a.k.a. trousers. Sometime when I wasn't watching, marketers of these have dropped the "s" and the term has become "pant", as in "this corduroy pant is perfect for ...."

Did the price of esses rise to the point where economies must be made? I find this offputting and precious and I demand that it stop this instant!

How's that for trivial?

Fashion-industry talk. When used by non-fashion-industry people it makes them feel all insider and knowing.

Does anybody say "Pantleg" any more? I have a fondness for that term because it was my little brother's nickname around the neighborhood. "Hey, get a load of Little Pantleg!" He's 50 now, but some people still call him that. Well, I still call him that.

I can't say I've ever really understood why people call them "a pair" of pants. I generally only have use for one pant at a time, and can't recall ever having worn two regularly. Unless pantlegs were at one time simply referred to as "pants" and they came in pairs......nah, doesn't sound right.

According to some, the phrase “pair of pants” harkens back to the days when what constituted pants—or pantaloons, as they were originally known—consisted of two separate items, one for each leg. They were put on one at a time and then secured around the waist.
Pair, from Old French, paire, meaning a set of two, or two of a kind coupled in use, pair/couple directly from Medieval Latin paria "equals."

As for pant, that's what dogs do, so too do teenage boys when a nubile young lady sends their blood pressure up.

^^^^ We noticed that as well. A big, central Halloween display in the grocery store. Can Christmas displays be far behind? We should have a contest as to who spots the first commercial Christmas display in a store. (Year ‘round Christmas Stores do not count.) Seems much more prevalent in the USA. In Austria, Christmas displays generally do not go up until the beginning of Advent.

Halloween has devolved into adult females dressing like prostitutes, and drunken thugs shooting each other on the streets. Children are no longer safe to go door to door, for fear of pedophiles. And in some parts of the world, flamboyant men dress as female prostitutes, and engage in public displays of "boy-kiss-boy".

So, like Köln's Carneval... ;)
