This is an Australian made longer style motorcycle jacket. 2 way zipper and zipper sleeves so it is primarily a motorcycle jacket.
The belt is "missing" and the jacket is from the 1970's. Not a lot of wear and the lining looks good.
Now it's located in the Northern Tropics of Queensland and will be showing some mildew and corresponding "whiff".
It was not expensive and may be worth a gamble for me for winter wear (later next year for us)

Well worth picking up, if the price is good. It's an interesting mix of American and British design language without looking like a lesser version of either.

The belt is easily replaced with any belt you like that's long enough.

Thanks folks for the replies.

At $89 Australian dollars ($60 USD) delivered to my doorstep it's worth a punt.

The maker, now apparently gone, did have a good local reputation since 1929.

They were probably done in by "globalisation" and India/Asia manufacture.

Here are 2 of their other products , including jackets made exclusively for the Australian army when they still had guys on motorcycles. All in Olive green colour.

The next a 'Brando" styled jacket of more recent manufacture.

Interesting, I like those Australian army motorcycle jackets! The leather looks kind of meh, but wondering if there are any vintage examples available, don't see too much olive leather around.

They do come up from time to time on local Australian market sites but always in 36/38

Troops must have been "skinnier" in the 70's ya reckon ? ( we all were haha..)

Often they are advertised as "boys leather jacket". Fairly often "'new/unissued"

Next time I see one I will post the link up here.

A bit off the mark, but which Australian sites do you recommend for me to find an older Mars Brando jacket in Kangaroo hide? It’s not a Perfecto-type jacket but named Brando it is. Thanks.

Gumtree is a local online marketplace, basically the Australian version of Craigslist that people will post local sales

I'm actually looking for a kangaroo Mars Brando as well so I'll let you know if I come across any, or if you need me to proxy or anything.

I think I had an earlier label Mars. In the Kangaroo. I saved the page and will dive into the site.

Thoughts on Jackson Racing jackets out of Australia?

Thanks.

That olive military jacket style looks cool!

The touring style is hard to judge the look being hanged on a much smaller hanger than the jacket hopefully it wont cause a deformation on the shoulder

No personal knowledge or experience of Jackson racing sorry.
From what I gather they no longer trade , after moving production to Pakistan 10 years ago or more.

Although i did find this I can no longer track down the makers.

Well the jacket has arrived, lateish courtesy of the Christmas mail.

Complete with "eau deMoth balls" but no mouldy/mildew odour.

Lining has no holes or wear points, and the leather is all good.

It is labelled a "size 9" (Australian jackets can be like that !), more likely a US XL.

The two way zipper is a large Talon (size 10), which probably confirms this is a 70's manufacture.

My suspicion is Kangaroo leather, from research and consultation.

It has an "action back" or as Schott say "Footballs".

The zipper sleeves are a bit loose, especially when compared to my Vanson "zip tight" sleeves.

I may speak to my local leatherworker to see if (and the cost !) the sleeves can be narrowed.

It has just come out of the washing machine , mild wash liquid and a dash of Dettol. 2 cold rinses.

Sitting outside in the shade placed open over a wheelie bin. First wash EVER no doubt !

Too heavy at the mo' to put on even a wide hanger.
