Age. I think red labels were from when they first switched name from Star Glove in the early 50's I believe and then to white in the sixties and beyond. @JMax could probably tighten that timeline up though.

Interesting, does Red Label denote some sort of higher quality than White Label? It appears that people are willing to pay a premium for a Red Label so I thought it was quality-related.

Hi all, not sure if this is a quick q or a long one but... what's the ideal long term storage solution for leather jackets if I can't hang them? Will be moving and need to put them in storage. I've heard that plastic is a no go but I don't want to risk moths either. Wrap in a suit bag and put in a cardboard box? I know hanging is ideal but if there's a good way to store without too much creasing I'm all ears, thanks!

I *think* it means that the shoe is Goodyear welted. Why they want to name Goodyear welting something else though is a good question.

I’m looking at a leather jacket on Yahoo Auctions, with no bidding at 28,000 yen starting bid. The description says “price negotiation ok.” What does that even mean? Does it mean I can use a proxy to negotiate with the seller to lower the bidding price? Has anyone run into this situation before?

The guy, Yoshikatsu Yamazaki, that started High Large Leathers (still in production btw, most recent release in 2024) is behind several other brands: Fine Creek Leathers, Fine Creek & Co. (different sub-brand), Naked Sun, and most recently Bootes Leather.

What would be your recommendations for how to un-wrinkle this CSC HH jacket? Would steaming it then ironing with a towel in between, followed by conditioning, help? It looks shrunken from a HWT, I’m unsure what happened to it.

Having never used a sewing machine, I would imagine they you pull the leather taught along with a certain amount of stretch to the elastic, and sew. How did they make them in the first place, I wouldn’t know of course. Now I'm curious too. I often just like to imagine how I'd go about fixing...

Some spend extraordinary money for a pair of long inseam jeans and roll a cuff in them. Is the cuff to confirm for others that these are expensive jeans or is this instead a fashion concept that only I find elusive?

It could be that I'm part of the 'get off of my lawn' demographic and don't see it because I don't run with that age group. What's the reasoning behind that purposeful cuff?

I've always seen it as 1) a fashion choice 2) an option to showcase both shoes and boots by rolling it higher when wearing boots 3) both of 1 and 2.

Personally I've never liked it. Plus you can roll a cuff on cheap jeans. Even if you argue how there's XYZ that singles out which ones are expensive and which are not, we would be looking at the Venn diagram that results from the amount of people who'll be able to tell and the amount of people who will actually look at it long enough.

I do it when I switch from boots to loafers

And not just with jeans, any pant that starts to drag when I'm wearing them will get a cuff

1. The large cuff is a gaudy, tacky way to show the jeans’ selvedge line. A cuff of about half an inch can be tasteful imo. Otherwise the longer cuff looks like they can’t afford to hem their jeans, chainstitched or not.

2. There’s a special scenario where if you wear raw denim and natural leather shoes, they easily bleed onto the shoes, so you’d want them to separate. The large cuff, sometime with an actual gap, acts as a separation between the two.
