Dude, that's too big, sorry to rain on your parade, but it looks too big from every angle, it fits like a leather bag.

Your tailor will likely give you the middle finger once they see the CXL FQHH. As they should - very bad idea to butcher this jacket in attempt to make it fit better.

I don't think a normal tailor has the tools to deal with leather, let alone CXL FQHH as TartuWolf points out above.

From what I've seen around, the tailoring done on jackets rarely goes beyond shortening or lengthening the cuffs. There was this very interesting thread in which Thedi altered a Tenjin jacket.

IMO, the Tenjin jacket was a better fit on this lounger than this Aero is on you, yet he mentioned that Theodoros "totally deconstructed the jacket and put it back together in a different pattern". That doesn't sound like an easy fix nor an easy job.

This does look better cinched.

I remember the days in the 90s when everyone wore oversized leather jackets. I actually believe this suits your style.

If you can move comfortably in it and feel good in the oversized look, then I'd say why not? The more you wear it, the more it will conform to your body and really start to become yours.

And with it being this big, you could layer a thicker denim or wool jacket under it easily.

Just wanting to throw some positivity out there - this fit it not what TFL community favors, but that doesn't make it wrong.

I’m taking it to a Leather specialist that deals with leather jackets, I have an appointment next week and see what they say. I would hate the butcher of the jacket if it’s an issue I still have time to return.

I appreciate that, I was looking for more of a little bit of an oversized look being that it’s horse side, and I’ve dealt with it before I know how strenuous it could be to break one of these things in, I would love it to conform to my body and keep it a little on the bigger side. I know that in this thread, I’m dealing with experts and people that are desiring the perfect fit ( which is great ) I would just like to grab this jacket and go out with a sweater or a wool sweater. Under most of my jackets that I own now are of a more Perfect fit, and most times cannot purchase a certain sweater because I know that I won’t have the room in certain jackets i own ( most are sz 38) thus it does not take me to the temperatures below 35F. I want to take a walk out of the house in 20°F weather in my favorite leather jacket and be warm.

Aero has really good customer service. If you say the jacket is returnable you might try emailing them your fit pictures and see what size (or style) they recommend for you. Just another option to consider since leather tailoring is so expensive and it doesn’t always come out the way you hope.

I’ll say that it’s hard for me to tell, since HH jackets like this tend to hold their shape when they’re fresh out of the box.

A lot depends on how you want the jacket to fit. I prefer a bit of extra room in my outerwear.

John Chapman told me once that if a jacket has a good pattern, you can wear it one or even two sizes larger and it should still look good. He sent me a picture of himself wearing a size 48 Hercules while he normally wears a size 44. I don’t think I should post that here without his permission, but suffice to say, the 48 looked good to my eye.

Hey man Thanks for the response, yes the jacket is very stiff at the moment. Literally just got it. All of my other jackets and I have about 10 of them. Seven of them fit rather almost perfect. I have one that is slightly oversized and I’m trying to match it with this one for heavier sweater, layers and more movement. I might be riding with this jacket also.

This is me in a correctly sized J23 (size 42), i can wear it comfortably with a T shirt and a jumper:

This is me in a size 44 J24, i can wear it with a thick fisherman jumper or wear a puffer underneath it and be comfortable in freezing temperatures.

Neither look like i can smuggle a bowling ball on top of my stomach, there is no need for so much room!
I understand wanting to make "things work", but sometimes you gotta admit when something isn't right...

I don't normally chime in on these fit questions, but I agree with Carlos so strongly, I felt I ought to say something. A skilled leather tailor could make an adjustment here and there, but this would require a major overhaul. I doubt it would ever look right.

When I saw your comment that the jacket was returnable, that sealed the deal for me.

Send it back and get something that fits you.

Im sorry you didn't think my opinion was warranted. But it was just that.my opinion. You are clearly not happy with the fit or look since you are already looking at "adjustments".Absolutely it could work as a wearer if you are going to layer.but for me I would have to layer it over a duffle coat to make it work.i look forward to seeing a fit pic when you're happy with it.wear in good health.

I agree with everyone speaking to the fact the jacket is too big for you. Likely by 1 or 2 tag sizes in this fit.

It helps me by thinking of how much "ease" I should have on the jacket measurements vs. body measurements. I would say that roughly 3.5-4.5" of ease provides a good fit while leaving room for some layering or weight fluctuations.

If your chest size is 39" then the jacket you have has 6.5" of ease which is quite oversized. To add, that extra material around the waist and hip never looks flattering.

I own a half belt as well, in their STF fit, which is a little slimmer in the arms and body. The jacket is a 36 in tag size and a P2P measurement of 20.75. My chest size is 37-38" depending on what I'm wearing. The belts here are cinched down a bit here. *apologies for the quick bathroom mirror pic.

So all in all, I would look to return if possible, or sadly take the "L" and try and sell the jacket. From what I gather Aero's 1930s jackets are supposed to be more fitted, where as the 1950's cuts are a bit roomier in their patterns. If you're still looking for an slightly oversized fit then I'd find a jacket that matches that aesthetic and buy the "correct" size. For Aero, I can't say it what tag size it will be...
