Thanks, I guess it smelled the same as my steerhide from them lol it's okay now but wouldn't wanna go through that again and at this point I really wanna try out different leathers.
Give Tailor Brando a shot! I just recieved my Hercules dupe and I'm really impressed! A little thinner than what I was anticipating but aesthetically and stitching wise it's VERY good for the price. I'll post some pics in the What Jacket Are You Wearing Thread when I get home.

I'm legit happy it worked out for you! I must be an outlier in my skin reaction. Shawn has not responded to me yet-- it's been since Saturday
Yeah man, I'm so sorry you had a bad reaction! I am also of the 'Pino persuasion and know the sensitive-skin quirks that come with it all too well lol. I hope he gets back to you ASAP!

Are you referring to different leather types from FiveStar, or leathers from different makers?
From different makers. There's just better leather out there to experience. Particularly interested in CXL, Shinki, Vanson Comp Weight, and Badalassi so I can't afford to allocate more disposable income on just 5* since I think one time is already enough experience from them to know what they're about.

...hence my saving up for a legit, quality jacket.
Interesting update: The trash man saw me dropping my jacket in the top of my bin, and asked after it. I gave him the details, and he asked if he could have it. There's now a trash truck driver rolling around in a new, vaguely toxic buffalo hide jacket. I warned him, but hopefully it treats him better than it did me!

My experience with 5 star jackets has all been with A2 jackets. Reason I went with them to start with was price. I ended up going through 6 of them. Today I own Eastman RW 27752 in seal and a RW 1401-P
Also own original G1 jackets a 1959 LW Foster 7923 spec and a 1949 Pritzker 55J14 spec.

Five star jackets, first off their leather is much too thick to replicate original jackets. While they follow a pattern of a contract they miss out on every fine small detail. Leather tends to be bland and heavily pigmented to cover the defects in the leather. As for as bad odors I never really experienced it. Not a single person ever took notice of me wearing them. They just don’t stand out.

The Eastman jackets my wife bought me yeah they cost a hell of a lot more. But it’s easy to see the reason why. First off they cover most of the small details accurately. But it’s the leather that makes those jackets. Italian Semi aniline leather just pops. I got people who know zero about A2 jackets stop and ask me where I got them. They are just beautiful v and the smell of the tanning process is a wonderful odor. For the 6 five star A2s I had bought I could have easily bought an Eastman and had money left over and only owned one of them.

When it comes to G1 jackets, it makes no sense to buy a repo of them. There are plenty of originals out there and they are usually cheaper than a repo, unless you go five star. Most originals need knit changes but there are plenty that don’t. Just takes a little bit of time and effort to find what you are looking for stick with spec 7823C or prior. The navy cheapened them up after that.

You buy a repo and the value of that jacket drops the second you buy it. An original the price only goes up with time. You get to enjoy wearing them for years and when you do sell them you make money on them as long as you took care or them along the way.

You talked me into buying an Eastman.. I have a beautiful lost worlds a2 but every time I put it one, I come to the same conclusion… it’s just too small for me. I may throw it on here for sale at some point or maybe eBay. For now, I’m going to take a hard look at Eastman. Thanks for the recommendation!

Got two ELC A-2’s and the leather is sublime …. after being an addict for many years the only leather flight jackets remaining are Eastmans, not cheap to buy but they more than earn their keep in being worn and enjoyed.

I quite like this, I feel a bit like I should have asked for no pockets on mine. I already thought I should have asked for a slightly tighter waist. Do you have an image of the original Rick Owens peice?

I ended up cutting the buttons off and replacing them with Prym 17mm star jeans buttons. A vast improvement in my opinion. So far I think the "80% of a good leather jacket for 20% of the price" is totally accurate. I'm happy with this jacket but I'll save and get an aero a2 baladassi sometime next year, assuming they will do hand warmer pockets and no epaulette without throwing a fit.

It's wearing in well, but I wish it wasn't so shiny. Anyone know the best way of knocking the shine down?

Fivestar Leather products always look great in photos! How is your experience with it so far?
Am quite pleased with the outcome. The construction is excellent, the measurements are exactly as I ordered them. Feels very solid and substantial. Brown satin has a very luxurious look to it too.

I didn't copy it 1:1 but here is the general idea attached. Would love to get one in a bronze hide too.
I also think maybe I should have gone for a tighter hem but that is on me

For me the value of the jacket is quite high as I am not so interested in the repros such as Aero and Y2 etc. I just want a high quality jacket based on the designer stuff I want and no one else is doing that.
And to those saying I don't know better, I have owned several Vansons and my first leather was a Schott 613US (Japanese model) so I know my leather.

Will probably get a bomber style as well. The idea is to keep it simple and based off existing patterns with some variations here and there

I wanted to get a military jacket from Aero without epaulettes, but Aero told me that they don't make any changes to the details on military jackets.

Let's see what you think of your 5* once you get the Aero.

Getting an aero seems less likely if they won't customise an A2 jacket.

I'm pretty sure I'll think the same. It's nearly there but not quite, with good leather and weird coatings, good construction and simple pattern making skills. It's why I went for the trucker as a jacket, it's a simpler design by it's nature.
