This is a full length documentary on the construction of Disneyland. If the subject matter isn't your cup of tea, give it a few minutes. It's mostly raw footage with voiceover, shot by one of Disney's nature filmographers (who wears a nice Panama). This is 1954/1955, so lots of midcentury vibes. At about 7:10, there's a shot of Roy Disney in a thin ribbon western with a cool variation of the horseshoe crease that I've never seen before. It looks like a center dent with a pinch from the front, but as he turns, you can see the horseshoe part. Walt's hat is less impressive, though he did have a nicer thin ribbon for TV. Lots of thin ribbon Strat/OR type hats. Much later in the doc, I spotted someone in the crowd in what I think of as "the Sinatra Milan," blue with white pugaree, but this one looked like the patterned band on my Supernatural Milan.

Caught a documentary on Seabiscuit last night as part of the PBS American Experience series. Great story with tons of film and newsreel footage of races. The crowd shots were great for hat viewing. Tons of different hats with great organic creases. Lots of straws, flat caps, newsboys, etc, but the felts steal the show. Best hat show I've seen in a long time.

I'm hardly the authority on 1953 German fashion and its accuracies, but re-watching the mystery series Dark has me astounded at the accomplishment of the wardrobe department, specifically Antje Traue's character and her perfectly chosen hat. Completely separate from my gender or clothing choices, but good grief does this leave a lasting impression.

Watched the first ep tonight. I liked it, but then I was predisposed to like it given the subject matter.

And I kinda like old Nic.

I’ve been watching this. I’m enjoying the show - I’ve always liked Nic Cage. Solid hat content, mostly from the secondary characters, in my opinion. Hard to find decent pics. I’m watching in color - I want to see the hats colors.

Posted about this on the TV thread a few days ago. I've been looking forward to this since it was announced. First became aware of Spidernoir via the "Into the Spiderverse" animated picture, one of those things I might not normally have gravitated to, but gave a go on a longhaul flight. I loved the condept of the nori version of Spiderman immiediately. I binged it when it dropped. Watched the first few episodes in colour due to the device I was watching on not supporting the B&W (it appears Prime weren't confident enough with the original concept, so colour is the default option), and the last few in B&W. The colour works well enough, but the B&W takes it to a whole nother level. It looks just beautiful. I'm so glad this got made at all, but I'd love to see it spawn a second series.

He's got a very distinctive style that isn't for everyone. He's an excellent casting choice for this, though. Works particularly well in a number of sequences I can't imagine many players doing so well. In particular the bar fight in the last (or penultimate?) episode.

There's also a joy of a scene that's a total nod to the sequence in The Big Sleep where Bogie scopes out the bookstore with his hat brim flipped up, glasses on, and adopting a higher pitched voice. I can't imagine that one being played any better than Cage does it. It's a lovely little wink and a nod for those who'll get it, with no signalling whatever that there's any sort of a reference there for those who don't.

All the players are great; Brendan Gleeson makes a stand out villain too.

I also enjoyed how they brought the Spider costume to life in a way that makes sense for the era.


About 15 years ago Marvel started a run of noir versions of their properties in this vein; as well as Spidernoir, they also did Daredevil, the Punisher, Wolverine, and I think Luke Cage. If we don't get more Spidernoir, I'd also be keen to see more of these other noir versions explored. Much may hang on how well this one does. That might all depend on the politics of ownership, however. Sony owns the rights to Spiderman (and has since 1999), and Sony work with Prime with that, so Spidey has largely stayed separate. That he turned up in the MCU in the Avengers pictures was part of a complicated loan arrangement between Marvel Studios and Sony. So if we want further, other Marvel-noir stuff, it might hinge on what arrangements those holding the different rights bring to the table. It's happened before ,though - the trade off with MS getting to use Spiderman in the MCU was that Sony got to use tony Stark and others in the more recent Spiderman pictures. Either way, I really hope we get to see more Marvel Noir on screen, particularly Daredevil and Wolverine. I'm sure if there's money seen to be made, it will happen.
