Is anyone big on wearing clothing from the 1920's...or 1930's?

I'm obsessed with the 20s. I have found that there are some amazingly nice "modern" versions of drop waisted dresses from maxstudio.com, BCBG, even Target. And Zappos has some nice retro t-straps and Mary Janes. (I'm still looking for the perfect Spanish heel.) My fashion bible is Laubner's...

    20's-30's book recommendations

Thank you! I knitted and then felted it myself using this pattern :) I'm crazy about '20s cloches.

    20's-30's book recommendations

I just got a copy from Amazon and I think it complements the Paris biography book quite nicely! It's rather large (kind of "coffee table" size) and has many wonderful gorgeous photos. I adore some of the dresses that she wore in Pandora's Box. Louise is truly one of my top five style icons. . .

    20's-30's book recommendations

Wow, Lauren posted some wonderful resources! Thanks! I have the Schiffer Roaring Twenties book she cited and it's fabulous. From shoes to underthings to jewelry to cloches, it's quite comprehensive. I'm still looking for the perfect sautoir! :)

    Who is Your Beauty Muse?

This thread has been very insightful, fascinating about how what we think of as a "modern" phenomenon -- i.e., anorexia -- has impacted women at many different times. . .. My beauty muses: (1) Josephine Baker (2) Louise Brooks (3) Audrey Hepburn (4) Many vintage pictures of classic...

    Virgin Knitter!

Ok, I am sadly terrible at UK geography but this page appears to reference a knitting group that meets regularly in Hampshire, I believe. It says both beginners and experienced knitters are welcome. Or try posting in the forum which is for UK knitters. I'm sure someone would love to help...

    Virgin Knitter!

I learned to knit using only Debbie Stoller's Stitch and B*tch (excusez moi :) ) handbook and a $12 knitting cd from Hobby Lobby. The Stoller book (the 1st one) is excellent in my opinion and a very good reference. I generally use the basic long tail cast-on in Stoller's book --you use your...

    Comfortable Vintagey Shoes?

I agree with Kitty and heartily recommend Zappos.com. I click on "women," then "mary janes" or "t-straps" under the dress shoe category. They have pictures of a zillion shoes (and closeup picture views of the shoe from several angles) as well as reviews (both good AND bad) from past...

    Shoes, gotta love them

I think those shoes are lovely! I have a similar pair but mine are much plainer and don't have the gorgeous ribbon like yours!! The stitching and the flowered sole of your shoes are beautiful details.

The Decline of the Well Put Together Lady

*waves to fellow Coloradan* Ha ha, I don't know if this guy has a wart on his arm! lol But he does have a rather warty personality in my opinion! If his last name starts with a "W," we're talking about the same dude. If not, well I guess there are more poorly dressed attorneys in the...

The Decline of the Well Put Together Lady

Very interesting discussion in this thread!! I've practiced federal Indian law for six years and my office is super casual. But I love to wear heels, stockings, etc. everyday regardless. That's just my own personal choice and my form of expression and it puts me in the professional mindset I...

What is your favorite red lipstick brand/shade?

I am still on the search for the perfect red but these are my favorite reds so far: MAC - Viva Glam (original) Chanel - Barcelona Red Revlon - Raisin Rage (My regular standby for many years now is Shiseido's Honey Tea. It's a sheer "your lips but better" color!)

    Knitters, check this out!

Yay, Honey Doll, I can't wait to see your 3 Hour Sweater! (There's something so appealing about a beautiful sweater pattern that fits on 1 page :D ) AllaboutEve, that is quite a lovely Vogue pattern. The stitch pattern looks enticingly cable-y but I am guessing it's one of those ingenious fake...

    Knitters, check this out!

AllaboutEve, I love to look at the patterns on yesterdayknits. They have a mindboggling variety of patterns! Have you ever ordered from them? Do you know if their service is good? Ooh, the Shetland Wool colors look lovely! I too am on a TOTAL knitting meltdown. I made a list of all the things I...
