Here is my brand new Stetsonian, fresh from DelMonico.
As it came from the box
Trying it on just to see if it fits (this is post-foam-insert under the sweatband)
Post denting and creasing. As you might imagine, I like a solid pinch in the front.
I have never really...
I plan to. Haven't shaped it yet, but oh my gosh that felt is buttery. I've never felt a hat like this.
Surprisingly, it's really large. I wear a 62 in Akubra just fine, but the Stetson hits my ears. Thankfully, I have some soft foam I put under the sweatband; with luck the sweatband will...
I'm totally on board with this in Caribou. I really wish Hatco would make it available in Mink as well, because I think it would look really stunning. As it is, my wife informed me that my Tawny arrived about an hour and a half ago. Can't wait to get home from work and open the box! :)
I just saw the Stetsonian today on the DelMonico website. Having missed the Nostalgia boat, my gut instinct is to buy one now, but does anyone know if Hatco will be making these in other colors? I could really go for a caribou and a light gray if they'll have them in 7 3/4 (62).
(Also, now I...
If he does, he's the only one in the world. I can guarantee that. :)
When I was researching the song for my website nbcchimes.info (from which Dixon Cannon quoted above), I reached an acquaintance at NBC who told me that the files for the episode that opened Saturday Night Live's fourth...
Whoa. I second that question. Also, would that be a general production Akubra hat, then? Because the Fed has always been Hats Direct's custom product, not sold elsewhere.
Does anyone from Miller read The Fedora Lounge? I know they have, or had, a line of straight-sided open crown hats made for them by Biltmore. One is an Indy style hat, the other two are similar bound-brim styles available in silverbelly and a pecan color. I've thought about getting one, maybe I...
The Homburg is also available through Hats Direct. I bought one for formal occasions, in black; it has a smaller, tighter brim than does my venerable and quite-in-need-of-cleaning Biltmore Homburg that I've had for about a decade.
I'm trying to do something neither up nor down with my Akubra Fed IV. I'm trying to recreate a more formal Fedora brim style of the late 1920s and early 1930s, which had a brim that was sort of upswept all around, but more so on the sides than in the front and back.
The brim style I'm trying...
I'm not brave enough for steam yet (don't want to risk shrinking the felt), so I just used water. Ran the bathroom sink full of cold water and immersed the crown for a minute or two - enough to wet the felt, but not enough to saturate through to the liner. I was surprised at how malleable it is...
I bought a Campdraft and a Stylemaster from Fedora Lounger casechopper . I did some gentle reshaping on both, mostly with the front dents. Here's a shot of me wearing the Stylemaster on the train into work this morning:
