what CD do you have in the car?

A compilation MP3 disk with favourites and some new stuff - all vintage. I have vintage commercials in there as well, so when it runs on shuffle I can fool myself into thinking its an old time radio program.

I'm currently digging 'Backup' by Eddie Chamblee.

I drove 150+ miles to my mother's house on Saturday, and the same distance back on Sunday. While I listened to the radio more than I listened to the CDs, I usually keep 8-10 CDs in the car. Well, maybe I'll rip the CDs and burn the resulting mp3 files to a single disc or put them on an mp3 player, just for convenience. Anyway, here's what I had in the car over the weekend:

1. John Waits, "Swordfishtrombones"
2. Elvis Costello, "Spike"
3. Michael Hedges, "Aerial Boundaries"
4. Alfred Brendel, Beethoven Piano Sonatas Nos. 14, 8, and 23
5. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
6. Diane Schuur, "Schuur Thing"
7. Bo Diddley, "A Man Amongst Men"
8. Miles Davis, "Kind of Blue"

Like I say, I mostly listened to the radio, but I did listen to most of the Bo Diddley CD on Saturday, and some of the Beethoven on Sunday.

If I didn't have some good music in the car, there would, of course, have been absolutely nothing worth listening to on the radio. This is one of those laws of the universe.

When it worked; pretty much whatever I was in the mood to hear: Usually Yello, Laurie Anderson, Yes, Micheal Franks, etc. Now: library music.

I've recently embraced modern technology to the point of recently procuring an iPod, so that I can take that in the car instead of a dozen or more CDs that inevitably ended up scratched and the jewel cases broken. With being a social ballroom dancer and a jazz and classical music fan- my music choices are quite eclectic. Most often its something with a good beat that one can dance to.

I've got a bunch in the car I routinely listen to. In the machine now, I have 2 Charlie Parker CDs, a Charlie Christian, a John Pizzarelli, a George Shearing and an Art Van Damm. Other CDs include Joe Williams, Johnny Smith, some Glenn Miller and way more.

I only have a tape player in my car and I have a little suitcase full of tapes - mostly audiobooks. Lots of Agatha Christie plus bits of PG Wodehouse, Ruth Rendell and Patricia Cornwell. Apparently I enjoy listening to murder while I drive!

I like the accordion in jazz music, I have played accordion myself many years and it is quite a challenging instrument, if nothing else you will develop strong arms

I used to play the accordian before the bass and the guitar. I like the sound of the accordian but I hated the weight. Plus I found out you can't practice the accordion in your underwear sitting down. Ouch. When I played bass in New York, I worked with a guy who played the accordian and sounded just like Art Van Damm. In fact, when I first listened to the CD, I couldn't believe how much the band sounded like the one I worked in. He's always been one of my favorites.

i have no car, but i do own a bike. i don't have an mp3 player but i LOVE to sing while biking. everything goes: christmas carols, musical numbers, old children's songs, new folky stuff (these days i like singing fleet foxes and beirut) and anything else that pops up into my head.

nothing beats singing at the top of your lungs when you feel awful because it started pouring and you still have a long way to go.

i get a lot of weird looks but the few high-fives and smiles make up for it.

Not sure if I have any music CDs in the car at the moment; probably do, but it'd be a wide variety in a large case. I also have a Sirius portable radio that plugs into my car stereo, and the car stereo has a cable with a USB port on the end coming out if it. On the USB I have MP3s, mostly albums from the '80s.

What I'm usually listening to, though, are audiobooks. I do a lot of driving each day (regional field tech supporting four locations) so I go through a lot of audiobooks. I check them out from various libraries. I've found that listening to an audiobook actually keeps me more alert than listening to music.
