Won this baby on Ebay for 46 quid including postage from Germany.....I've been after one of these for ages....

Technically not double breasted in reality, but gives that outward appearance with the buttons

Classic 70s-80s police jacket. I remember them well... "Give me that slingshot, son! What's your name and where do you live?! Your parents will have to pay for that window, you know..."
Those jackets are really well made. Heavy aniline cowhide, large panels/ less seams, double needle stitching, nice detailing like solid brass buttons etc. It's presumably much better than the current issue jackets. If it's in good condition you didn't pay too much. Who's the manufacturer? Krawehl?

Nice score! I've never bought, but have handled a fair few German police leathers from that period, of varying design. all really nice stuff. Is it black, as appears to be the case in the photos, or that wonderful deep greenish hue that a lot of German leather have?

I remember seeing these jackets for sale in Melbourne, Australia in the 1980's. Many were a deep green colour. Fancy those things coming all the way over here. They were cheaper to buy than lunch at a cafe, back then.

Striwa is one of the Bavarian manufacturers. I think they don't exist anymore. The jacket must have been in service in Bavaria, Baden Württemberg or Rhineland-Palatinate (federal states).
Edward and Seb, you were right about that greenish hue on older German leather jackets. I think it has something to do with the formula of the dye. Decades of exposure to daylight might be one of the reasons why many 70s leathers turn into forest green. I like it, though.

Ukali, please post some outdoor pictures once the jacket has arrived.

Were there ever any photos of this? I've just picked one up myself, waiting for it to arrive. Seventies jackets but with a much earlier look to my eye... Mine will have stitch holes from removed insignia, but that's no biggie...
