Nice one. You do the traditional hats very well. On a mobster hat--from what I can see, they are nothing but formal-dress, wide brim hats with flair. That's all that the mobsters probably were aiming at. I don't think they ever intended to have a mobster uniform--just wanted to look well and expensively dressed. That's why I don't let wide-brim hats bother me, even if someone makes a mobster comment to me. I just want the "men's dress hat with style" look. It's the context of the person and his environment that makes them mobster hats. You know, when times changed, I'm sure mobsters dressed in the modern styles too and abandoned the wide-brim hats.

That picture is my senior picture in the yearbook. I am using the baseball bat because the school frowns upon having a gun in your pictures. I was going for the mobster look, also wanted to do some with classic cars, but we weren't able to get ahold of them in time.

Yeah there does seem to be a tendency now leaning towards the "mobster lifetsyle" I find it amusing. However each person likes what they like.

Don't let them kid you. When I was a teenager, "tough guys" wore ducktail haircuts and rolled up short sleeve shirts and white socks. The styles have changed but not the attitudes.

lol, true. Actually I'm pretty well liked, and I don't do the look so much because I like mobsters (which I do), but I just prefer a classier look. I prefer suits to the typical jeans and a t-shirt.

Akubras - or at least the two Fed IV Deluxes that I own - do very well in snow indeed.

Also, one should not be turned off by the fact that the Federation IV is the so-called "Indy" hat from Akubra. It does not need to be bashed that way and is a great 30's look hat for those who like that particular period and style!

Hmmm. You should been around the Cleveland, Ohio area during the thirties when my parents were growing up and had to worry about "The Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run" (a.k.a. The Cleveland Torso Murderer). Even Eliot Ness could not solve that case.

If the FED IV were a real consideration for a good 30's hat they'd have put more thought into the choices made for its specs. I have seen plenty of people trim the front and back to an equal width for the narrow sides on the FED IV, though (and it does turn out looking pretty good at that point) but with so many hat choices available, that don't have to be trimmed to correct 30's proportions, it's a tough call when considering a specifically 30's style hat.

What makes the FED IV an "Indy" hat over the FED III's "Indy" hat, again?
