^^I like the way that scene you described sounds. I've got the movie on DVD; need to watch it

Thanks to Skyvue sending me a download, I was able to see Dick Powell in Johnny O'Clock (Columbia, 1946). Powell's character is on the wrong side of the law, but he was debonair enough to have you rooting for him. Good supporting cast, including Lee J. Cobb, Thomas Gomez (billed as S. Thomas Gomez) beautiful Evelyn Keyes, and beautiful Ellen Drew. Powell's characterization was, for me, a cross between his roles in Cornered and Murder, My Sweet; some wise-cracking, but a certain level of seriousness, too. Of all the Powell Noirs/Crime films I've seen, this ties for second with Cry Danger (Murder, My Sweet is #1).

I just watched the 1962 sword and sandal flick, The 300 Spartans. It was definitely better than the modern movie based on the graphic novel which it itself inspired.

Not the best, or the most historically accurate, but it was very fun.

Murder By The Clock (1931)

The creepiest 30s horror movie I've ever seen. It involved a mentally ill man who was super strong, a matriarch who mysteriously dies, wenchy Lilyan Tashman who masterminds THREE murders, including her HUSBAND and her LOVER! She teases the mentally ill dude into thinking she loves him so, of course, there is the obligatory pre-Code attempted rape scene. In a crypt, no less! The matriarch was afraid of being buried alive so she built an alarm into her crypt -- her grave gets robbed, the alarm goes off. That awful alarm goes off three times in the movie.

No one was likeable. Lilyan Tashman was a horrid person in this movie. I loved every minute of it!

We watched Secretariat over the weekend, and my husband and I were pleasantly surprised. I am a sucker for horse movies so I was excited to begin with. The hubby...not so much. But we really enjoyed it so much, I watched it for a second time.
I really liked the scene of the run of the Belmont where he won by 31 lengths. It literally left me speechless because it seemed so impossble. The movie has made me want to read more about the horse and venture off into other horse race subjects.

Now I am compelled to watch Sea Biscuit, which I have never seen.

Also, we attempted to watch Inception because of all the hype it received. I understood the complex plot fine but I wasn't interested in following it. I ended up turning it off without finishing it.

Maybe another chance another day...just not this weekend.

It was, well, ok. Nothing special. Original 1945 movie was far better in both atmosphere and script

Please don't flog me, but I just watched Gone with the Wind for the first time this weekend. It was an absolutely amazing film! I am only now learning to appreciate the films of the Golden Era. I have been a fan of the era for quite some time, but my focus had been on film noir, and other of the mobster genre. I was very pleasantly surprised to say the least.
