A few months ago my local pub was out of my regular Dogfish Head 60 and I was offered this as a replacement. Very tasty. It's become my regular beer. Now when I walk in the pub the barkeep yells out, "Man the torpedoes!!"

Hey, A.C., I noticed our local supermarket has the Torpedo IPA so I had to get some to try.

I'm not always a huge fan of American IPA (although I do enjoy Dogfish Head), but this is rather nice!

Hi

I bought a twelve pack of Leinenkogel's Fireside Brown Ale. It's not Newcastle Brown Ale, but it's very, very good.

I am enjoying a Dale's Pale Ale right now. I also like a local brew called Pecker Wrecker, and it does just that. Also the make a whiskey warmer, beer aged in a used whiskey barrel and that stuff is to die for, both of those by Rahr and Sons.

I found cask beer heaven!

Piper's Pub www.piperspub.com (in Pittsburgh's Southside)
Always has at least one cask-conditioned beer available, and can have up to four on pumps.
The owner put in a "firkin room", and has been able to convince a number of breweries to sell them "fresh" beer (not conditioned).
So they do the conditioning themselves at the pub!

Last Friday afternoon I had Duck Rabbit Paul's Holiday Bitter as well as Troeg's Pale Ale.
The Troeg's wasn't bad, but I preferred the Duck Rabbit.

(P.S. For those of you from England who consider the above simply the norm for a decent pub, it is a BIG THING to find a pub in the States that does their own conditioning)

It is big thing. I have a local distributor who does this for his 12 tap growler station. You ought to see the crowds when they announce something like World Wide Stout is being tapped.

Rumblefish - if you ever get over to Pittsburgh, be sure to stop at Piper's Pub. Most of the cask beer they put on there is more like British beers - reasonable alcohol rather than the over-the-top stuff that is generally seen cask-conditioned in Seattle.

Plus, the food is good.

I haven't been out lately, but in the past cask conditioned ales were a rarity in the LA area. Some places will put in a beer engine (hand pump) but few will stick with it. To have a pint of some fine ale pulled thru the engine is always an enlightening experience. Any body have Theakstons old Peculiar thru a beer engine in the US? Long ago in Pasadena the John Bull Pub did. Extraordinary beverage in a sublime condition.

And the last half of the last frontier will be to convince establishments on the west coast to put reasonable-alcohol beers on cask. So a person can have (and taste) a second one!
I would think, from a practical point of view, that it would be advantageous to put beers with under 6%ABV on cask so it sells quicker and keeps the cask fresher. But for some reason (at least in Seattle), it is often the "big" beers on the pump.
The logic escapes me ...

I had some Lone Star ordered in for me. It's some of the smoothest beer I've ever had. I always enjoy it whenever I can get my hands on it.

Finished yesterday with Northcoast Brewing's Pranqster.
They call it a "Belgian Golden Ale", and it went down quite nicely from a goblet.

NOT the regular Guinness Stout in bottles. This is the Guinness Foreign Extra. Much, much better than the other Canadian brewed version that I really don't care for anymore. Foreign Extra is still brewed in Ireland and has a much more complex and powerful flavor. Wariness is warranted-- it is a bit strong, but do seek it out. You won't be disappointed.

I don't know if I've said this before but North Coast Brewing is one of my favorites. I always have their Brother Theloniuos in my basement. Have you ever had the Old Stock Ale or the OSA Cellar Reserve? Good stuff.

I lucked into the Pranqster at a local brewpub which maintains a couple of "guest taps". I haven't had either the Old Stock or the Cellar Reserve, but I will pay more attention to what the brewpub has on their guest taps from now on.

Just looking at it makes my mouth water. I tend to get the Extra Stout more than the standard draught style, but this sounds so tasty that I'll need to make an effort to find it.
