It used to be Detroit....
Here's another little something that's very well worth the astronomic cost:

The Bell & Howell 2709. They don't make movies like they used to, but you can with this baby. This particular model was bought by Universal Studios in 1916. And this is a few steps away from another nifty dream purchase:

And I don't mean the postcard! Time to give Jack Warner a run for his money.

That movie camera is a Hollywood icon! I wonder how much one would cost... and where to find one for sale?

How fun it would be to make a movie with vintage equipment!

A sports car you may have heard of: Mercedes 300SL Coupe.

And I have actually laid hands on one of these, although it has been many years.

Build a steam locomotive your self?!?! Wow, what a woman you must be! It takes a factory, scores of men to assemble and fabricate parts for ONE Pacific 4-6-2... All I'd say is that the hats of every worker at the Baldwin Locomotive shops would forever have their hats off to you!

I feel bad that what I dream is already assembled... shame on me!;)

=WR=

My Grandfather was at Baldwin's in Eddystone, sadly just the old office building is left now, a lot of great loco's came out of that shop.

Oh, build your own teardrop eh? Well, that's how people did it back then! They came as kits for the most part. I know just the car to pull that little teardrop... A 1939 De Soto coupe.

I'm only a little crazy... I'll likely never finish, but at least I'll be occupied in my retirement. Is it odd to plan your retirement as a teen?

Oh, and thank you for the suggestion, Root... that De Soto looks wonderful. I'll do a little research.

Oh, that is what I feared... at least there is something left! They did turn out some fine locos... They rank among my favorites!

Do you have any photos of your Grandfather at the Baldwin shops?

Only a little crazy? Nah, I'd say very ambitious! Read up on locomotive construction... it's very interesting... you'll soon feel overwhelmed at the prospect of fabricating a steam locomotive... I know there are a few beauties in museums that would love to be restored and get out on the open lines again!!! Next best thing to giving birth to one is giving a rebirth to an old one!

Hey, this is true! A small scale railroad would be really cool. In fact, there's a place here near Griffith Park called "LA Live Steamers" and their club consists of men and women who love live steam locos... but, on a smaller scale. I've taken rides on these little wonders and they're a blast! Such fun... it is sad as of late they have more "Diseasels" (A railroading term that uses the word Disease and diesel together for diesel electric locos are modern and un cool… all but the Super Chief and like streamliners ;) ) running then steam... I think they need to get back to name sake of the club!

Any way, I know some one over there has a scale GS 4-8-4 Daylight and a scale 4-8-8-4 Big Boy! Well, at least they did when I was last there in 1989 or so.lol

Ok, I just found something that I should have before any other big time dream thing... A home... not just any but, this ome!!!

Santa_Maria_house.jpg

And just for fun, that house is for sale in Santa Maria CA for $460,000. Two bedrooms and one bath.... full of original Deco Details! I WANT IT!!!

=WR=

Geez, you should see the house next to the high school here. It is even more art deco than that house. You would cry if you saw them knock down another one further up the street. I would have bought it and moved it to my Santa Cruz property if the idiot environuts in that area didn't make my 7,000 square foot lot illegal to build on. :rage: :(
The place used to be a veterinarian's office---believe it or not. [huh]

Regards.

I wish he had taken photos, but he may not have been allowed, especially during the W.W.II years. (There was a lot of military work happening there, everything from the first military helicopter, to tanks, and naval gunmounts were all happening on Baldwin's grounds.)

The last part of BLW went down in the early 1990's-'94
Other than the original office tower, it's all now a shopping center, Philadelphia Electric Co. plant, and Boeing has a little of the grounds now.

My Grandfather worked on this loco when he first started at Baldwins in 1919.

On the move again...
A 1937 Cord convertable. Why my father ever let this one go is a mystery that will boggle me forever.

A 1949 Buick Roadmaster, hardtop or convertable, but not this color, I've seen one in a sunset yellow that was to kill for.
buickrd49rf.jpg

And of course I would love to get my hands on my Pops first car that he bought for $75. A Model A Ford Roadster, stock.
baldyroad2.jpg

Another one that my Pop had, a 1955 For Crown Victoria. Red & white of course. He traded it for a Chris Craft Cabin Cruiser a few years later.

But of course my personal all time favorite is the 1954 Chevy Bel Air.

Just my small (if I win the Lottery) wish list.;)

Cheers!

Since we're dreaming big- this is mine:

This particular aircraft, a Pitcairn Sport Mailwing, is owned by a local gentleman named Stephen Pitcairn, son of Harold. Harold Pitcairn's factory built these in the late 20s/early 30s to fly the mail. They were such a delight to fly, though, that they made some "Sport" versions for civilian purchase.

Harold Pitcairn is primarily known for building the autogiro after he stopped building the Mailwing. Here's the PCA-2 autogiro owned by Stephen Pitcairn, before he donated it to the AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh:

I can't choose between the two, so I think I'll have both! :p

Lady Day, I thought my dream was a simple one, too?! I guess I was wrong. [huh] Check it out...

A few weeks ago my wife and I were talking about this very "dream wish" thing?! But sadly, our discussion ended oh-so-abruptly when I told her my secret desire...

...and I sensed that I had disturbed her greatly when I remarked that all I really wanted in life was to hold a vintage Gay Prince?!

Well, now I'm guessing that she felt I should have broached this subject with her before waiting until almost forty years together had passed but truthfully, I have always felt embarrassed to bring this "out"?!

Anyway --

...she stamped her foot! and
...she threw three Milk Duds at me! and
...next a donut came zinging by. (As I recall, it had chocolate frosting flying off of it...) and
...my last can of Scout Felt Hat Cleaner swished through the air...!

Finally, she composed herself. But as she slammed the door behind her -- I heard her say something...??!

I believe her exact words were, "You've got too damn many hats already, Mister!" :eusa_doh:

...I hope no one feels sorry for me because actually I got the last word in!!

After the door slammed behind her, I said, "Someday My Prince Will Come."
