small reference....I am still waiting to get my run of boots made....they are cordovan (shinki) but not shell cordovan...the difference is the shells are two 9 inch dinnerplate size discs inside the bean shaped piece of horsebutt that is the whole piece of cordovan. Real McCoys makes both...one is double the cost of the other...using shinki....also two other points mine will be made in the same factory as the MF boots...the design is more primitive...and reminiscent of very early 1930-40s engineer boots done by my friend Robert at Ace Boots....hopefully we will have them and costed out by the end of this month or next

Dave, been looking forward to seeing these. So, what exactly is meant by cordovan then? Sounds to me like a fancy word for horsehide. I know the McCoys non-shell bucos are made of uber top shelf double tanned hh goodness, but never heard of cordovan unless it was in reference to true shell or burgundy colored leather?

Cordovan is a small piece of the entire horse hide. It is used in very high-end footwear:

It's sounding like There is "shell cordovan" and cordovan (horsebutt) and they are both from the same general area. But the shells are double the price...

I've received these Mister Freedom Road Champs about 2 weeks ago. So far I have about 5 good days of wear into them. The boots live up to the hype, as I can't think of anything about them I would change. The fit was really good from the start (I sized down 1/2 size from my normal 11). the color of these is a nice chestnut brown which I really like. I haven't put any oil on them yet as I'm not sure what I want them to evolve into.. Ive seen them after black polish has been applied and also when other leather conditioners are used.. either result looks great to me. The cost is definitely prohibitive but fortunately I had an opportunity that was too good to pass up..

Well, tonight I am surprised and pleased. It's my birthday and my wife got me a pair of the Wesco's currently on eBay from Muskhaven. I got the brown with natural mid-soles. My usual 10D in Wesco's fits perfectly and they are just really cool boots. Boy, was I surprised.
