Ahh, sliders. You know you got a good batch if you can still taste 'em the next day. Sadly, in this part of the world the closest we can get is the frozen foods aisle at the local supermarket. I think White Castle has tried to move into southern California over the years, but most Californians don't know a good thing when they taste it.

Maybe way-back-when, but here's something most people don't know about modern field rations (i.e., MRE or Meal, Ready to Eat). They're primarily formulated to do two things: provide nutrition, and "stop up" the troops so fewer "breaks" would be necessary when they were out in the field. A friend who was in the U.S. Army for 25-26 years said they did both rather well, but that you'd better be near a latrine when it came time to "offload".They would have made another great addition to C-Rations.

I was one that was weaned on C's and Sundry boxes and, first they were called LRRP rations for short and then MRE officially. C's could be ate cold and most did, MREs you couldn't unless you added water. That meant carrying extra water. I preferred the old way, original field rations, find a farm, roast a chicken or two, open a bottle of wine and chat-up the farmer's daughter/s!!!!

I was never in the military, and never had the opportunity (or the desire, truth be told) to try C-rations, K-rations, MREs, or whatever they're called at any given moment. Regardless, roasted chicken and wine in the company of a lovely lady sounds far more preferable.

I remember going to WC for their 25cent burgers back in the 80's in Portland, OR. They were great! Now I don't know.

I guess remembering when they were .12 cents ea will show my age. I remember when McDonalds was .15 ea.
I couldn't eat WC in Georgia, it's called Royal Castle down south and the sliders are the same except they squirt mustard on them. Had to order them w/o mustard.

In addition to breakfast sliders and bacon sliders, White Castle even has a Vegan version of their sliders now. Nothing against people who want or need to eliminate meat from their diet, but if that's the case should they really be eating at White Castle?
I've tried their cheese slider and their jalapeño cheese slider, but neither were an improvement on the original in my opinion. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I've ate at Krystal's also, can't remember, do they put mustard on? There were many spinoffs from WC, Krystal and Royal Castle are the only two I believed survived.No WC here but we do have Krystal.
Steamed onions, pickle slice and mustard.
