They also don’t have this when you wash them....

This one experience with a vintage jacket has turned me off buying vintage again....

^ That's pretty normal, after all leather doesn't get thrown in the washing machine each week like cotton clothing does. I've gotten some pretty yellow water from nomex flight jackets thanks to oil, grime, etc. If you think about, now your jacket is clean.

As far as opinions go, yours is as good as mine! It was certainly not my intention to make fun of anyone’s opinions. I apparantely misunderstood the intention of your message. No hard feelings!/?
No hard feelings at all, brother Jejupe. I expect a picture of me to be among the illustrations in "Man: The Opinionated Ape", if such book is ever published. Peace.

Which jacket looks 70 years old after one month of wear? I gotta see that.

I can't recall the model; it was one of the teacore hides that was all the rage here a while back Somebody posted a picture of a jacket that was a month old, and it was already more brown than black. Horses for courses and all that - just not my bag. Oddly, though, I've realised over the years that I much prefer a black leather to stay 'new-er' looking (as in: still, by and large, the colour it was when purchased), whereas a brown looks great with more wear. Couldn't honestly tell you why, though.

Interesting points.

But I've just found something that's actually really stupid. Like, probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen in the heritage scene.

"This is Fine Creek Leathers' take on the classic double riders jacket with the epaulets and belt loops cut off. The way the edges of the cut off horsehide age with time is truly beautiful."

$2K for a jacket that's actually ruined. Like, ruined as in ruined. Actually ruined. Two thousand dollars. Smooth. Real smooth.

The blurb is a bit silly, but clearly there's a market for it or it wouldn't be out there....

I do wonder if they *really* cut off some bits from a stock one (and especially if so what the upcharge is as compared to DIY!) or if these were made with just a 'tag' that was then cut to length in the right place.... I suspect the latter is more likely.... again, depending on the upcharge....

I believe that this thing is made exclusively for the most hard core Japanese cosplayers. Those guys who dress up in that 50's biker gear. And it just translates badly outside of Japan. No other explanation. Nobody else on any side of the spectrum would even get this.

The whole thing is a bad, sad joke.

There you go, there's market - s'why they do it. That's capitalism, folks. TBH, while I sure wouldn't pay more for it, if a used jacket turned up like that I wouldn't necessarily turn it down. I can totally see that some folks might see this as an authentic look, and want not no epaulettes, but the look of a jacket with the epaulettes cut off - that stud makes all the difference. It's not that dissimilar to the way I like having the stud on the back of the neck of my 618, even though I'll probably never buy the fur collar it's supposed to keep in place. (Clearly there are a lot like me - Schott phased it out at one point, then brought it back due to popular demand, but they only sell a fraction of the units in the collars as they do in the jackets..). Crazy prices aside, I can see why some folks might want this as a style choice. (Much like breaking in / worn out - subjective.) Though it's a less elegant solution to tank scratches than the Lewis side straps.. ;)
