Cowboy Boots

Those look to be just about the perfect length, Jack.

I've got 2 pairs with mule ears. On the one pair, they come all the way to the ground, and if you look close enough, you can see they are starting to curl up on the end from dragging. I guess the maker didn't factor in for loss of height from heel wear. On the others, the mule ear is only as long as the bottom of the shaft. They only show if I cuff my britches up real high or tuck 'em in.

I have always liked your black & whites since the first time you posted them up! I've always wanted a pair of B/W's since I first saw the Oldsmobile Rocket "88" boots in one of the books. I had a pair of TL Firewalkers but wondered how they would look in B/W. I had a pair of Champion Attitude tall tops in B/W in a trade once but didn't keep them.

Thanks Jack. I know the boots and the book you're talking about. Looking back, that book has turned out to be one of the most expensive I've ever bought. And like you, those black and whites inspired me. Mine are a pair of Mexican boots by unknown maker I picked up about 20 years ago. They're pretty solidly built and I've definitely gotten my money's worth from them. I'm still hanging on to my TL flame boots, even though heyve been resoled 5 times and I've long outgrown them. Figured one day one of my boys might take 'em over.

I don't remember for sure but I think my Flamewalkers were sold in a garage sale yrs ago. My wife swears she asked & I gave permission for her to put them in the sale. Same thing happened to my Fender Jaguar!

If those Rockett "88" boots had belonged to my father or grandfather (don't remember which it was) I would cherish them forever!

I can certainly relate. I have a pair of Texas brand eagle inlay peewees that were part of my dad's stage gear when he was playing in honky tonk bands in the 50s. They're far from the level of quality of those custom Rocket 88 boots, but they're priceless possessions to me.

As for the garage sale...... I don't have a wife any more, but I had one for long enough that I can certainly relate to that story as well.

Sorry to hear that Dale. I had no idea on the unfortunate news.

That's a good looking pair of boots and I've wondered where Stetson was having them made. I've never handled any. My size as well and I don't need these.

Any of you guys ever have a laced collar like these? I've wondered before how that would wear. That's a lot of work on that laced/braided side seam.

I'm personally not a fan of natural heel blocks & soles but in this case it doesn't look too bad with the boot coloring. I've never handled any Stetson boots either. I may be wrong but the vamps look to be horsehide. And coming from Mexico I would wonder how the leather was tanned.

I had a pair of Stallion Boots with lacing around the collars bought new retail, not custom fit. They were beautiful but never quite fit right. I didn't wear them enough to see how the lacing would wear over time but I don't recall the lacing rubbing. I eventually sold them thru Reitzel.

Ps: what kinda toe is that on those killer boots??

Bowen the best way for me to describe this particular toe is through pics. It doesn't come to that dramatic point that some refer to as an X toe and it's not a narrow round either. There is a slight rise to the toe before dropping off to a narrow undercut of about a 1/4". The first image is from Rocketbuster.

Those have such a nice toe and bug. The color is beautiful. I was just thinking how well they would go with my Resistol Montana.

Cowboy boots come and go, but your wife sold your Fender Jaguar? What on earth did you do to provoke that?
