Yeah there's a lot of people join with their first jacket asking advice etc - been a few recently I think so that is a bit odd.

swore I was done buying any more subs but couldn't resist!! Lovely 'furry' wool and interesting to note to the slight styling differences when compared to my other Picks from roughly the same period. This has the quite wide style neck funnel like the 70's example and is quite short in the arms

I've actually lost count - well over a dozen I reckon with the oldest being from the 50's! Interesting to see how a size 2 in these can vary. This one is a bit too short in the arms and body (as well as generally being a bit tight!) when compared to some of my other Picks. Might give it a careful wash and see if I stretch it a little bit, maybe thats the differnce as it's unissued. Lovely thick tufty wool tho and under an Irvin you'd be happy strolling about the artic!!.

To be honest, I don't know why I still haven't been granted access to the group and perhaps I made a rather rash assumption based on some of the responses. Regardless, I still haven't been able to discover much detail on my jacket.

I find it amazing that I'm the most recent person to post in this thread, back in May 2019. Anyways, this remains the best thread in which to post questions/info/pics/etc about 'original' RAF shearling.

Guys could I ask a question. I just asked about the arm length on a sheepskin flying jacket on eBay, very long for my arms. However looking through the photo’s on this thread many seem to have sleeves that just about cover the full hand, is that the norm for this type of jacket.

I think these are generally not the best-fitting jackets. The advantage is that it doesn't matter whether there is an inch more or less.
With the zippers open, the sleeves of my jacket (not an original) are also very long. But if the zippers are closed, then it fits.

First post here I've hiding in the background for a while so I'd thought I'd post a few pictures of an early believed to be 1940.
Not sure of maker also looking a bit sorry for it's self.
The jacket is on its way to me.
When I have the the jacket I can decide on best way to repair depending on how supple it is.
If any has information on the contract number I would greatfull.
