I acquired this hat at an estate sale and wondered if anyone could give me more information about the hat. I believe it is fur felt based on the softness and that it was made prior to the factory closing in Ghiffa in 1981. The sweatband is leather and the hat band is scrunched a bit. I don't know if that was intentional.

No. Wet the hat band with iced water wit a little sponge and not so much. Do it with small part of the hat band, have patience

Open crown at around 13cm and overwelt brim at 5.5cm. Pleated box bow.
Color is Asbesto and looks like a mid grey
Next a NOS from 70's, the Panizza sportsman

Color Anguria is a dark green with brown undertones finished with short melusine. Mid weight felt. Ribbon, as the name indicates, is fantastic.
Brim shape is a work in progress, I want an upbrim/pensil curl look for this one

Two great additions, Panos. Panizza can be a bit hit and miss, but that Foulard is a super hat and the Sportman looks to be a winner as well.
Panizza is the least consistent in its quality of the Italian makers. If they got it right, they were fabulous, but sometimes it just isn't there. This one they got right.
Panizza in the colour Lampo (lightning). Size 56 with the bound brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 10,5 cm at the center dent. Weighs 105 grams with the felt being thin and dense. Lovely hand to the felt, almost like a chamois but not quite. The brim binding ribbon is extremely narrow with just about 2mm showing on the top and on the bottom.
Kreymborg was a menswear retail chain. It disappeared in 2000 after being around since 1891.

A production of the Panizza factory is the historical one so we are before the end of the Seventies.
The hat is a magnificent gray color, Asbesto, with the ribbon, also in gray, Lapis, that goes in slight contrast with the felt.
The felt is of medium consistency, unlined with the "Panizza" brand on the bottom of the crown
Oddly, no definition of the quality of the hat and no indication of where it was for sale
The hat is light and very malleable in a special color combination.
These are the measurements: the brims are 6.5 cm, the ribbon 3.5 cm. and the crown is at the lowest point 10 cm.

I finally found a hat of this shape that somewhere carried the name given by the Italian youths of the 1950s and early 1960s: Mambo!
I'm dancing when I took the picture
One of them, my gym buddy, brought me a photo of him a few years ago wearing a hat very similar to this one.
Panizza "Mambo" size 58cm or 7 1/4 in the US with a back bow. Inside measurements are:20x16.5 centimeters
The hat is in good condition with some barely visible moth bites and a felt that is reborn after a steam bath with a brush.
The color is a gray called by Panizza "Opale" with a black belt with a small bow on the back.
The felt is of medium consistency and very solid in its shape. It was sold in Italy on the bank of river Po.
The hat unlined has a branded insert at the bottom of the crown
These are the measures: brims at 5.5 cm, the crown is at 9 cm. the lowest point and the ribbon is 5cm.
