I'm not so hot on Picard's new crew, but Stewart's performance as Picard himself is impeccable. His experience with the Borg was never treated properly to begin with and it's no surprise that he's still damaged by it thirty years later. I do keep waiting for some acknowledgement that the Romulans were valued allies during the Dominion War -- which makes Starfleet's decision to abandon them to their fate absolutely contemptible.

And where's Section 31 in all this? No doubt headed now by Bashir, Julian Bashir. Wish they'd show up -- it would explain a lot.

And why is "First Contact" german FSK12, while "Alien" is still FSK16?? The Borg in FC were the best pissed and scary Borg, IMO. Definitely not a kids-movie.

We got into the habit of watching a random TNG episode after watching the latest installment of Picard. We generally enjoyed season 1 of Picard, although it is easy enough to nit pick it. The final episode could easily have been a two parter. A bit too much was squeezed into it. Several things had me scratching my head. But the geek in me has to admit that I got goosebumps when (spoiler alert!) Star Fleet showed up at the very last minute to save the galaxy. Ryker's ass-kicking speech made my day; corny as it was.

Okay, I just watched 9 and 10. I don't like to be a spoiler so I will say that I felt like I was led astray and then led astray again, which I guess is the point of creative science fiction, even if I felt that I was disappointed when I "shouldn't" have been, as a fan of the franchise.

Was that vague enough, while still making a point?

Could Jonathan Frakes as director rescue the franchise with a new TNG motion picture?? :)

I thought that was both its strength and its weakness. The old long-season format of the TNG era gave you a lot more opportunity for serious character development -- even the clinker episodes often contained important character bits that added to the sense of reality around the characters. But I thought they crammed so much plot into "Picard" that characterization suffered. I wanted to care about these people, but I found it difficult to find a reason why I should.

Overall, I thought it was very well done.

I also thought, and still do, that much of TNG was plodding, with too much discussion, aka character development, but I guess that was inevitable with a TV show that was following in the footsteps of a show as ground-breaking as TOS, which broke a few mores in its time. Still, TNG had many seasons to get the character development fleshed out, and Picard has been around for only 10 episodes thus far.

But I feel ya on the lack of character development as it pertains to the new characters in Picard, with the exception of Rafi. I got a pretty good sense of her, given the limited exposure of the single season, but I found myself caring for her, and the feeling built right up through the the death scene and beyond, where I actually got wet-eyed watching her reaction to the situation.

The veteran characters had the development built in, so to speak, and it felt like seeing old friends whenever they were on screen. I especially liked Riker's appearance at the end of 10.

Would be great, if the Enterprise D's crashed saucer-section on Veridian III could play a role in the next season, but I wouldn't bet on such a TNG "fan-gift".

I enjoyed it

(SPOILERS BELOW) and it had some great moments but was kind of run of the mill and very predictable even to the point that the opener montage (pieces falling and eventually landing on Picard's face as parts of a puzzle) made me guess his fate and outcome right off the bat.

so knowing that was coming inevitablely took away from the seriousness of his doctor friend telling him he had terminal illness and not much time. yes, he does. :p
if Seven's appearance had been kept secret Picard's command of "Beam him aboard right here!" or words of that sort would have been much more fun and surprising had we not known she was even a part of the show... so that lacked impact. having said that Seven of Nine was for me the best part of the show. she kicked ass! Really enjoyed Hugh Third of Five as part of the reclamation staff.
Riker... perfect and fun as always!
The final farewell scene in the Data matrix had me blubbering like a baby inside. that was perfection. finally Picard gets closure, gets to say goodbye and in a way return the favor as it were. I really felt Data's sacrafice finally after all these years. it was such a touching moment.
The mustache twirling Romulan baddy Narek was laughable. I think they dropped the ball with him. his sister was cool and I liked what they did with the different factions of Romulans. All in all it is a great and wonderful gift to us TNG fans and I am looking forward to season 2 but I do hope this time they keep some stuff secret because pretty much everything was Leaked, spoiled and officially announced before the show premiered and left little to be surprised about.

great scene! thats the sort of thing you get from experienced Shakespearean actors. my favorite episode of all time is Yesterday's Enterprise. once the Enterprise-C showed up everything on the D changed and Tasha was back and fully armed! amazing. felt like a movie.
